Supplement your child's education in reading and writing with a literacy plan tailored to the skills, interests, and goals of your child/family.
I will use information gathered in my initial consultation to create an individual instruction plan. This may include areas that need additional support to get a child up to grade level or it may be additional enrichment for a child whose skills are above grade level. Topics that I may address include but are not limited to phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding skills, reading strategies, comprehension strategies, word study, elements of writing, and writing process.
I can also take a survey of your home library and make suggestions to help create a rich and balanced literacy environment for you child. I have extensive experience with children's literature and am able to suggest genres, authors, and specific titles that might be a good fit for your child.
I have experience teaching preK through 2nd grade. I have a bachelor's degree from Stanford in sociology and a master's degree in elementary education from Northwestern, where I wrote my thesis on classroom library improvement. Lizzy is great and we look forward to working with her. Our son thinks she is super fun and enjoys his sessions with her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am a licensed elementary teacher in Colorado. I have taught in Boulder Valley School District at the first grade level. I have also taught Kindergarten through 2nd grade math.
In addition to my previous years teaching preK and elementary school, have worked as a literacy tutor in 1st and 4th grades this year. I use games, songs, rhymes, etc. I also use word sorts (Words Their Way) for kids to discriminate between sounds (beginning, medial, ending) and to start building a sense for the patterns of words and sounds. I start with letter recognition, sound-letter correspondance, then move to word families. I teach sounding out, chunking, and spotting smaller words in bigger words. I heavily emphasize phonological awareness and a necessary precurser to phonics.
I am a licensed Elementary teacher in Colorado. I have been a literacy tutor in Boulder Valley School District and have taught both struggling readers who are not at grade level, students who are at grade level, and students who are above grade level. I focus on reading and comprehension strategies as well as word study. I believe reading success comes from good instruction as well as making sure students are reading books that are at the right level for them.
I have tutored and taught writing in the Elementary grades. I am a licensed Elementary teacher in Colorado. My writing instruction focuses on students generating writing based on their personal interests or on school assignments. I assess what their most basic needs and areas of growth are and start the revising and editing process from there.
