My love of teaching and helping others started over 20 years ago as I worked as a therapist in private practice then began a teaching career. I have taught counseling, psychology, sociology, and health and wellness courses for over 14 years. I also have been a flute instructor on and off over the years, starting to play flute as a 4th grader, progressing to private lessons at 6th grade, and continuing into college as a soloist with the college orchestra and participant as a drum major in a marching band into my college years. I enjoy the variety of all that I teach.
My hope is to work with excited and motivated students. Learning is truly lifelong and I hope by my positive attitude, a student will understand the importance of learning and expanding personal knowledge. When I teach psychology and sociology courses I take pride in helping students reach good writing skills including APA format and assessing for plagiarism which is so important in our internet world. My college students appreciate the time I take giving regular feedback on content, writing skills and APA formatting.
I will travel to your home or meet in a designated public space for the academic tutoring. Music lessons will of course occur in your home. I look forward to hearing from you so we can work towards your success!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied ballet for 21 years and completed a Masters degree in dance in 1992. I have taught on and off for many years and certainly understand how to teach quality ballet.
I began playing flute when I was in 4th grade and began studying privately in 6th grade. I continued private lessons and played in a quintet for all of my high school years. I then went on to play in a college orchestra and soloed with the orchestra. I have given flute lessons over the years and played for weddings.
I have been teaching sociology at the college level for about 13 years at two different colleges. I have my students participate in discussions as well as write papers and create projects around various sociology topics. I teach social problems and marriage and family courses within the sociology department.
