Bio

After graduating with a B.S. in Materials Sciences and Engineering from Washington State University in 1994, I worked at Battelle Laboratory in Richland, WA, for two years on various projects (fusion materials research, electrochemical corrosion studies, nuclear fuel assemblies). The job was interesting at times but the long hours alone in laboratories and libraries made me miss working together with other people.

I stumbled into tutoring by the suggestion of a friend while I was taking seminary classes in Pasadena, CA. I loved tutoring from the beginning! Easing students' anxiety, building their confidence, seeing their bright smiles of discovery - these were more fulfilling than any work I had ever done before. I tutored for several years at the Stepping Stones Learning Enrichment Center in San Marino, then taught middle-school math and science at the William Carey Academy in Pasadena, then taught Algebra and Geometry at Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills. Later, I tutored math and science for six years at the Tidewater Learning Center in Virginia Beach, from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus.

Over my 15 years of tutoring and teaching, I have learned that every student is completely unique in personality, background, and learning style. I have learned to be adaptive to each student's needs, compassionate to their struggles, patient in every small step.

I will develop individualized strategies to help you reach your academic goals. I will cultivate solid work habits and strong logical thinking that will benefit you in mathematics and beyond. Hopefully, I will also show you that math and learning can be fun!
