About Robert

I am now in my eighth year as a certified educator, having taught grades 3-5 in local public schools. My classroom work reflects my belief that students learn best by doing, rather than watching or listening. Active participation is a must in order to build student engagement. My passion is in helping students to build confidence and a growth mindset, which builds their understanding that hard work and effort will enhance ability.

General elementary mathematics (building understanding of numbers and operations prior to doing them) and guiding emerging readers (through a range of reading, writing, and phonics support) cover the majority of my tutoring work to date. Tutoring is a chance for students to receive one on one support to build upon their strengths and understand what specific strategies they can employ in the classroom to either catch up to grade level expectations or build deeper understanding of subjects.

Students will work to build understanding of numbers as well as operations. Eight years of classroom instruction, including multiple years of supporting struggling students using various intervention programs.

I had specific training in supporting struggling readers at lower levels, and 8 years experience in providing differentiated classroom instruction to meet the needs of all students.

I had specific training in phonics instruction at the elementary level.

I look forward to meeting with you and your student!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified elementary educator in multiple states, currently employed by a school district in the state of Colorado. I have maintained a current teaching credential for the past 8 years, and taken many classes to further my knowledge in the area. I have spent hundreds of hours tutoring students in a variety of subjects through my years in the classroom.

Phonics

As a certified elementary educator, I have spent countless hours supporting students in the area of phonics. I specifically focus small group lessons with students around the subject area of phonics on a daily basis. Many hours of professional development at my school have been completed specifically focusing on the role, and instruction, of phonics in developing early and struggling readers.
