About Ricky

I am a retired veteran of twenty years. During my time in the military I worked as a instructor on UH-1H aircraft, gave classes on weapons, gave classes on combat training, gave EEO classes, and trained others to give classes. At the age of 46 I went back to school and completed my Bachelors Degree in 2003 and my Masters degree in 2007. I started my Masters Degree program in 2003 working on a Masters of Special Education with teacher license. I completed all requirements except my one semester of student teaching. Between 2003 and 2007, I completed 1000 hours of in classroom volunteer time, worked as a substitute teacher, a paraeducator, daycare worker, and was a contract employee for Fort Carson, Colorado teaching American Sign Language (ASL) to children K-5. I converted my degree to a Masters of Education in 2007 because I was hired by the Department of Labor and graduated with honors (a 3.85 grade point average). Last year, I did volunteer work through AmeriCorps. This was called Saturday Academy. I worked with a group of third graders on Saturdays to help improve their reading writing and math skills. First hour was academics, second hour was a fun activity (I taught ASL and drama classes), and third hour was call character hour. Lesson plans were not provided. Last year I tutored a group of 5th grader in math and was also put in charge of the Vacation Bible School at the Centennial Salvation Army Church. I am a retired veteran of twenty years. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
