About Marilyn

I am a certified teacher with twenty-five years of experience. I have taught elementary, middle school and high school students. My Master's degree is in Special Education, which I taught for the last fifteen years of my career. I have extensive experience with special needs students, including ADD/ADHD. I am also able to address IEP objectives.

Having difficulty keeping up in class can be extremely frustrating. I can assist with preparing for tests and completing assignments. Additionally, I can help fill in learning gaps, improving understanding.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with very diverse groups of students and am able to create a rapport with all kinds of people. I enjoy working with students of all ages. I am especially looking forward to a tutoring situation which will help you to move forward and have a more positive educational experience.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have a Master's degree in Special Education, Moderate Needs. I spent ten years with ADD/ADHD students in my classes when I taught elementary school. I then received my MEd and worked with ADD/ADHD students, as well as emotionally disabled students for the rest of my career. This included work with elementary, middle school and high school students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. I taught elementary school for ten years. I have also done charitable work at Children's Hospital, teaching students who are hospitalized for long periods of time.

Elementary Math

I have always taught math as part of my 26 years of teaching. I am confident about working with all elementary and middle school math concepts. I am also familiar with the Core Curriculum, which is emphasized in all math classes at present.

Handwriting

I taught second grade for ten years. This is when handwriting is emphasized in elementary school. I have excellent handwriting myself, partially due to teaching it for so many years.

Needlework

I have completed needlework projects since I was twelve years old. I have extensive knowledge with cross stitching. Most of my handiwork has been given as gifts to friends and family.

Special Needs

I have a Master's degree in Special Education, moderate needs. I spent the last 15 years of my career teaching special needs students. Some of this was in mainstreamed classes; some was in pullout classes. I am able to adapt for students' IEP objectives.

Study Skills

As a Special Education teacher, I have spent many years helping students to acquire study skills. This is very often a huge issue with this population. I know how much of a difference good study and organizational skills make in the learning experience of students.
