As a third generation music educator, I believe I have the experience, education, and expertise that make me an excellent candidate to teach lessons and I am confident that I would be a valuable asset to you as a lesson instructor. After several years away from the field of education, I have a strong desire to return successfully to teaching with new skills and ideas garnered from my experience in other industries.

I graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2003 with a bachelor’s cum laude in music education. When I was at UW, I spent a lot of time performing in as many ensembles as possible so, when the time came for me to be a teacher, I would be prepared to teach anything. I feel very fortunate to be a UW alumnus and frequently correspond with my former professors.

I have seven years of experience teaching music in public schools. For six years, I was the band director at Budewig Intermediate, a 5th and 6th grade school in Alief Independent School District. While at Budewig, I maintained a very strong band program of 250+ children per year, I was nominated four times for “Teacher of the Year”, and students from my jazz band were featured on PBS in a story about Hurricane Katrina. My band program included beginning and intermediate bands, a jazz band, and a pep band, both of which are considered uncommon for such young players. I developed an after-school private lesson program in which high school students taught one-on-one lessons to my fifth and sixth grade students for affordable rates. This was an amazing program in that it strengthened both my band program and that of the high school students. In order to help with large class sizes in the other elective groups, I also created curricula for and taught music appreciation and recorder classes. I believe my experience teaching in Alief prepared me to be successful in any teaching situation and I look forward to employing the skills I acquired there to bring success to new students.

I moved back to Wyoming in 2009 to be the elementary music teacher at Pershing Elementary in Rawlins. Once again, I was nominated for “Teacher of the Year”, and I enjoyed introducing my students to music from all over the world. I taught several unique units, including a month-long salsa dancing collaboration with the PE department and a jazz improvisation unit. Being so close to Laramie, I was able to invite my professors over to play jazz with my students, which was an incredible experience for us all.
In the fall of 2010, I took a break from teaching to pursue teaching yoga and graduate studies. In the years I have been out of the classroom, I have learned many different organization, communication, and diplomatic techniques that I am eager to bring to my students.
