I'm very passionate about helping individuals to love and to learn about my favorite subjects: Geography, History, Literature, Math, Writing and Public Speaking.
Although I would not be able to list teacher on my resume, teaching and coaching is something I do every day at my current job. I've been a team leader at my graduate level courses in preparing teams to do presentations. I've taught journalism at the college level. Also, I'm one of the trainers for new employee orientations at my full time job.
My style is to "not just" provide the answers but help the individual's discover the answers through research, hands on help and doing the work. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My qualifications to tutor K-6th students include more than 2 years of tutoring a 5th and 6th grade student in all of their classes and undergraduate coursework in elementary subjects. I am currently tutoring the same student since she was in 6th grade, now in 8th grade, in all subjects. I incorporate many different methods to help the student to learn and understand the material. It includes reading out loud, delivering speeches standing up, using dry erase boards to practicing penmanship, and helping them discover the answer to their questions without directly providing the answer. I've really discovered my passion to help all students love to learn and my reward comes from their desire to please.
