About Brooks

Bio

I was a student at Red Rocks Community College and the University of Colorado Boulder from 2012 until I graduated with a master's degree in laser physics in August 2020. While I was a student I worked with three different research groups over six years in quantum crystallography, nanophotonic design and all-optical machine learning devices. In 2017 I was awarded a fellowship through the National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship Program.

At Red Rocks Community College I became certified as a level III master tutor through the CRLA certification program. The training exposed me to many challenges related to tutoring, including time-management, learning disabilities, and intercultural issues. I have tutored for three years at RRCC and another three years at the University of Colorado Boulder. Many students have complimented my ability to explain complex or abstract ideas clearly. I pride myself on my ability to reach my students wherever they are at, academically, and help them understand more clearly the principles of mathematics and natural science for themselves.

In the context of understanding physical science and its many laws, my ability to clearly explain densely technical material is a great aide to internalizing lessons and developing intuition during lessons. After my many years of experience learning and teaching, I am excited to share my unique ability with you!

High school and college students who struggle with tough courses like calculus, chemistry or physics should contact me to set up an appointment to identify gaps in understanding. Together we can work to inspire understanding, success and even subject mastery for devoted students. No matter what your opinion of the physical sciences may be, I can help you build intuition and understanding for how the world around you works.

Please submit tutor requests before 9 pm or after 6 am mountain time. In person sessions are subject to an additional charge during the pandemic.

Applied physics master from CU Boulder with 7+ years of tutoring experience in math, physics and chemistry. Master Level III tutoring certificate obtained through the CRLA tutor training program in spring of 2012. Took discrete math as an undergraduate at CU Boulder in the fall of 2014, where I received an 'A' letter grade. I have employed the principles of discrete mathematics, particularly counting problems, in my research and class experience at CU Boulder throughout my graduate career.
