About Julia

I'm a recent graduate from Purdue University with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. I took a very "hands-on" approach with school, working as a machine shop assistant and on the Formula team, and I like to take the same approach with teaching by using analogies and physical explanations for more complex subjects. Math was my strongest point in school, but as one of the top students in my class I feel I have a good grasp on all of the subjects in the ME curriculum. I'd love to help students become proficient in their math and science courses.

I received an A+ in Differential Equations from Purdue University in 2013. I have access to course material from my class (textbook, old notes, etc.) and online resources (Paul's Online Math Notes, etc.) to help students. I can provide a transcript or my Professor's contact information to verify my credentials if necessary. I currently work as a Battery Engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, CO and am looking to tutor students part-time (in the evenings or on the weekends).

The two course areas I am looking to teach are math and mechanical engineering. I received high marks (A's and A+s) in all of my math courses in college and spent a lot of time in my undergraduate career speaking with professors and looking up videos to gain a stronger grasp of many of the concepts. I feel I have a good grasp of not only the computational aspect, but also the fundamentals behind a lot of these classes. Although I have experience with high school level math (geometry, algebra, etc.), I took Calculus, Differential Equations and Linear Algebra more recently (within the last 4 years) so I feel more comfortable teaching those subjects.

I also did fairly well in mechanical engineering as a whole. With a 3.95/4.0 upon graduation, I feel that I have a good understand of all of the fundamentals in engineering. My undergraduate coursework consisted of classes such as heat and mass, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, dynamics and statics, physics, elementary circuits, materials science, controls, and engineering design. I feel qualified to provide assistance in any of these subject areas.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

I received an A+ in Differential Equations from Purdue University in 2013. I have access to course material from my class (textbook, old notes, etc.) and online resources (Paul's Online Math Notes, etc.) to help students. I can provide a transcript or my Professor's contact information to verify my credentials if necessary.

Mechanical Engineering

I received my Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University this last Spring (May 2016). I received a 3.95/4.0 and was in the top 3% of my graduating class. I can provide transcripts or a Professor's contact information to verify my credentials.
