About Jon

Hi, my name is Jon F. and I am a 3rd year Math teacher at SkyView Academy. I have an extensive education background. I have taught Pre-Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, AP Calculus AB, College Algebra, Discrete Math. In addition, I am the department head of the Math Department at SkyView and I have spent four summers working as a camp counselor at Sanborn Western Camps working with boys ages 10-18.

I love mathematics, and helping students understand math and how it can relate to their life. I value creating relationships with my students to better educate them. I look forward to helping students become more confident in themselves and help them reach their math goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

During my student teaching, I taught two College Algebra courses. This makes me a prime candidate for Algebra 1 because I know what is expected for students in Algebra classes. I also majored in math education and took classes such as Abstract Algebra, in which I got an A.

Algebra 2

Through one of my education classes, I taught in an Algebra 2 class and gave multiple lessons. At a High School, I tutored many students that were in Algebra 2. I also taught a college Algebra course during my student teaching.

Calculus

At CSU, I graded for Math 160 which is Calculus 1 for Engineers. I have taken all Calculus courses and also have taken Differential Equations and Advanced Calculus with one Variable. I have previously tutored a student in Calculus 1 at Fossil Ridge High School. Calculus is one of my favorite math courses and I can't wait to tutor students in it!

Discrete Math

While student teaching at Rocky Mountain High School, I worked with two quarter long Discrete Math classes. Discrete is an interesting Math class, because you are constantly learning about something completely new within it. Having worked in two Discrete Math classes and having taken a Discrete Math class at Colorado State University, I am very qualified to tutor it.

Geometry

I will be teaching Geometry for a third time next year and it is still one of my favorite classes to teach! I love it because it teaches students how to critically think differently than most math classes. This is the subject that I have the most teaching experience in.

Breaking through to help our 10th grader

Our daughter is in Math IV at Legacy High. She does well in all her other classes, but Math IV has been tough. It's pre-calculus, trig, geometry, etc. She is finally getting a handle on it thanks to Jon. He helps her put things in context and teaches her how to approach the problems. Great find and great guy!
