About Frank

Hello! I entered the field of education several years ago, after an extensive career in business, having come from a family of teachers; one of my sisters was named a Teacher of the Year in Virginia, and my sister-in-law is a math teacher, so I had a fair amount of exposure to the teaching world prior to joining. A love of learning and teaching seems to run in our family! I graduated college as a member of both Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa and received an Accounting Assistantship to the MBA program at Indiana University.

During my business career I trained both professional salesmen selling medical devices as well as health food store retailers selling nutritional supplements, so my personal love for training began early. After serving as literacy volunteer for Adopt-A-School and Reading Naturally, in 2012 I received my three-year substitute teaching authorization, receiving a Recognition of Excellence for my scores. I Joined Americorps as a full-time literacy tutor for a Jeffco elementary school in 2013-14 and soon thereafter worked as a full-time elementary teacher in Denver. I am now an authorized substitute teacher for K-12 for English, Math, Science, and History by the State of Colorado and work as a guest teacher in Denver Public Schools (DPS) and Jeffco.

As I did in business, I approach each teaching situation uniquely, driven specifically by the needs of the student. As a literacy volunteer, this philosophy helped our elementary school be selected as a 2013-2014 Site of the Year by the Mile High United Way for outstanding student progress. From 2012-2015 our family hosted two twin boys from Korea as exchange students, and I provided English and History tutoring for both of them, and they both graduated with straight A's. As any of my former students can tell you, I care deeply about the progress of each individual and will do everything I can to help him/her achieve their potential.

Feel free to contact me with any questions, and I look forward to helping you achieve your goals.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I recently became an authorized substitute teacher for K-12 in the State of Colorado, receiving a Recognition of Excellence for my scores. I have also been a volunteer in the Adopt-A-School and Reading Naturally programs where I taught elementary age students reading and math. My substitute teaching authorization in Colorado is for three years.

Elementary Math

I hold a three-year substitute teaching authorization from the State of Colorado for grades K-12 in English, Math, Science, and History, having received a recognition of excellence for my scores. After receiving my undergraduate degree in Finance and Marketing from the University of South Carolina, I next earned an MBA from Indiana University with an Accounting Assistantship.

Elementary Science

I currently hold a three-year authorization for substitute teaching in Colorado for grades K-12 for English, Math, Science, and History, having received a Recognition of Excellence for my scores. I taught 4th grade science as a full-time teacher in 2014 at Barrett Elementary and in 2015 as a guest teacher in Denver elementary, middle, and high schools. With science classes, like any other, CLOs are critical as is the gradual release method of teaching with the hands-on portion (you do) as the most valuable for students.

English

I currently hold a three-year K-12 guest teaching authorization from the State of Colorado for English, Math, Science, and History; I received a Recognition of Excellence for my scores. I am also a published author and speaker with two books currently on Amazon. I began my teaching career as an AmeriCorps literacy tutor, where our elementary school was named Site of the Year for its outstanding student reading progress.

Finance

I hold an undergraduate double major in both Finance and Marketing, where I earned a 4.0 grade point average in each subject. I then received an Accounting Assistantship from the MBA program of one of America's highest-ranked undergraduate accounting programs.

Marketing

I received my undergraduate degree in Marketing and Finance; I then received my MBA in Product Management. I have since spent my career in brand management, working my way up from Assistant Product Manager at Frito-Lay to Senior Marketing Manager, North America, for Bausch & Lomb.

Public Speaking

I have been doing public speaking throughout my career in corporate America, and as author of a new book released nationally in February, 2013, I have been doing seminars and workshops with Rotary Clubs, Kiwanis Clubs, and city governments throughout Colorado. I have also closely read World Class Speaking by Craig Valentine, 1999 World Champion of Public Speaking.

Reading

I currently hold a three-year substitute teaching authorization from the State of Colorado for grades K-12 in English, Math, Science, and History; I also received a Recognition of Excellence for my scores. Prior to my formal teacher experience I served as an AmeriCorps literacy tutor at an elementary school in Arvada, and our school was named Site of the Year by Mile High United Way for outstanding student reading progress. I continued my literacy tutoring with both special education and general education elementary students as a full-time teacher in 2014.

Writing

I am a three-year authorized K-12 guest teacher in English, Math, Science, and History in the State of Colorado; I received a Recognition of Excellence for my scores. I am a published author and speaker with two books currently on Amazon and a third on the way. As an AmeriCorps literacy tutor, our elementary school was selected Site of the Year for its outstanding student progress.
