My name is Michael, and I've taught and tutored mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus), computer science (Java, C, C++, software design, service-oriented architecture), and science (chemistry, physics) at the corporate, college and high school levels for over 25 years.
My work experience as a software architect has allowed me to put these concepts to practical use on a daily basis, so I can relate these skills to you or your child in everyday terms.
I enjoy helping others to fully understand and apply a subject, not just memorize concepts. I am a very personable person and look forward to a rewarding tutoring experience for you. My name is Michael, and I've taught and tutored mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry, … Read more
My rate is negotiable for multiple students, multiple hour lessons and long term engagements.
We needed help with algebra 1 for our 9th grader. Michael is terrific! His teaching style is calm and low key. My child understands the concepts because of the way Michael is able to explain them. We have seen concrete results in a short period of time. The homework scores are of course up, quiz score up two grades and overall grade increased by half a grade. I expect her upcoming chapter test will improve as well. Most importantly, her confidence is on the rise. Michael is knowledgeable, professional, and tailors the lessons to the student's individual needs. Your child will be very lucky to work with him.
Michael is tutoring my son in Algebra. He's very patient and takes the time to make sure my son understands the concepts. My son's grade has improved with Michael's tutoring and help with test taking skills. He's also been flexible when I've needed to reschedule a session. He's a fantastic tutor and we enjoy working with him!
Michael is a wonderful math tutor for our high school junior daughter. He is extremely patient and explains physics concepts in a way that makes sense to her. I highly recommend Michael for any math tutoring your child may need.
Michael is a great tutor! We selected Michael to help my daughter with Algebra II. He is very patient and takes the time to teach at the speed of the student. He is very thorough and covers all aspects of the topic to build a strong knowledge base on the subject.
Michael is very personable and polite. My 17 year old daughter was comfortable and engaged during every session. Michael is timely with his communications and always showed up on time for the tutor sessions. Overall we are very pleased with Michael and will use him as a resource in the future.
I only worked with Michael for a short time, but in that time I felt like he really knew what he was doing. He's a great teacher, very patient, and extremely flexible and nice when it comes to scheduling conflicts and/or cancellations.
Sometimes when you're sitting in class, wanting the teacher to slow down or answer more questions, you find yourself wishing you had a patient, knowledgeable person that could walk you through things step-by-step. Michael P. is that person. I leave every tutoring session understanding more about my topic and feeling more confident in my Computer Science class. Michael has stood up strong under my barrage of constant questions. He is competent in the subject matter, very patient, and good at explaining complicated topics. I am comfortable working with him and have been able to work out scheduling very easily. Overall, I am doing better in my class because I know that I can always give Michael a call when my brain hurts too much.
Mike has tutored both of my sons; one for pre-calculus and the other for geometry. Both sons have found Mike very helpful in explaining concepts and strengthening techniques. He also seems to be able to establish a nice rapport with teenagers.
I have had Michael for 4 lessons and every one is well prepared and very patient with me. My grades are improving quickly and significantly.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been actively involved in Java development, J2EE architecture and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) using Java for the past 15 years. In addition to being a developer in the past, and now a software architect, I've taught and tutored Java at the corporate and college level using custom coursework I've developed. Because of my in-depth experience across multiple industries (finance, insurance, Department of Defense, pharmaceutical), I can provide real world examples and relate your Java knowledge to practical use.
