My name is Nicole and teaching is my passion!
I have been a career educator since 2001 and have taught middle school through college. I hold a Colorado teaching license with a dual endorsement in secondary math and general science and currently teach 7th and 8th grade math and science at a middle school in Golden as the school's lead middle school math and science teacher. Although I teach both math and science, math is my true passion; I can't imagine life without solving really cool equations with my students and challenging them to develop a confident, enlightening understanding of the problems they solve.
When I taught college prep math to military veterans at Metropolitan State University of Denver, I taught algebra and geometry using real-life scenarios so the students could understand direct applications of math. When I taught English composition at Metro, I would ask my students to use their personal experiences to draw parallels to characters in novels and create expressive, thoughtful essays detailing their responses to the novels we read in class. I believe if students can understand academic content on a practical and personal level, then they can develop the confidence in themselves to tackle whatever content they choose.
Every student learns and comprehends at his or her own pace, and I have developed a persistent patience with my students in order to help them avoid giving up on challenging material. Learning takes time, patience, and practice.
My specialty subjects are ACT prep and math; however, I tutor other subjects. Please feel free to email me your schedule availability, including any questions, and I'll respond as quickly as I can.

If a student has forgotten to notify me of a cancelled session before I arrive for our scheduled session, then I assess a $20 fee for time and travel.
She LOVES math! She is enthusiastic, kind, supportive, encouraging, and knows her material! I would highly recommend her! In addition she has been flexible this summer and is so conscientious of our daughter's summer goal!
I contacted Nicole to help my daughter improve her score on her retake of the ACT test. Nicole assured me that she could help my daughter bring her up score significantly. Once Nicole started working with my daughter, she immediately established a wonderful rapport with her. Her ability to connect and her talent at preparing for the ACT test is truly superior. Not only is she kind and pleasant to be around, she has excellent written and verbal communication skills, is extremely organized and very reliable. Nicole developed a plan to improve my daughter’s score and began to focus on the most appropriate learning areas. When my daughter took her retest, she did indeed raise her score significantly and was accepted by Arizona State University. I highly recommend Nicole to you without reservation. She is truly the very best!!!
Great Tutor! The results are amazing! My daughter is a freshman in high school and her math was always between a B and a C (more toward C). After 3 months of tutoring with Nicole, her grade in Math went up from a C to an A (92%)! We are going to continue for the next school year too. Nicole is very patient, easy to communicate with (especially for kids who are shy), flexible with schedule changes, and knowledgeable! What is even more important, my daughter now feels really confident. Thank you Nicole!
Nicole has done and is doing an excellent job with our grandson. She applies herself not only to the lessons but to encouraging him to work on his own so he will be ready for the real world. She motivates as well as tutors. His educational status has risen significantly since she started. I would highly recommend her.
Our son has had a sports coach most of his life. Because of this, he has always learned best when someone other than his parents is helping him. Nicole helped increase his ACT score by 3 points overall, 6 points on science, so she definitely knows her stuff.
Nicole is very patient with our daughter and has been giving her the help she needs to increase her ACT scores. Nicole is also helping our daughter gain some confidence in herself and has given her the tools she needs to relax while taking tests. Thank you Nicole! We see a positive difference in our daughter.
Nicole's attention to detail and enthusiasm is wonderful. My daughter is feeling much more confident and excited about Algebra after just a few sessions with Nicole. I would highly recommend her!
Nicole is patient and has the unique ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and straight forward manner!! Thank you!
Nicole is a great tutor in every way. We couldn't ask for any one better. We will continue to utilize Nicole as our tutor.
My daughter (high honor roll student, tough critic) has tried out a number of SAT tutors on WyzAnt; Nicole by far leads the pack. She was on-time, organized, and went out of her way to be flexible in scheduling. She was patient, kind and supportive. Most importantly, she managed to adapt to my daughter's learning style very quickly. Nicole intuited her needs, simplified math and critical reading concepts clearly, and worked efficiently. My daughter definitely got what she came for, happily without bankrupting me in the process. Would not hesitate to use again. Recommend HIGHLY!
Nicole just seems to love teaching. My son may start out low energy and she turns him right around. I enjoy listening to them laughing and leaning.
The tutoring my son has received from Nicole has been outstanding. His grades have shown steady improvement and he now feels he is building a solid foundation for future success. Nicole has shown a positive and patient approach while teaching which resonates well with my son. My son's confidence level has increased in regards to daily classroom activities as well as test taking (specifically math and science). I would highly recommend Nicole for any tutoring needs and I feel very fortunate to have found such a quality tutor.
I have two sons ages 12 and 18. Although we have only been working with Nichole for a short time, she is very patient, kind and knowledgeable. She has a way of working with both boys on each of their different levels. Both boys enjoy working with Nichole and are very comfortable with her energetic teaching style. Nichole has also been very flexible with our schedule and makes every attempt to get to us, even on unscheduled days.
It seems to me that Nichole loves teaching/tutoring and is a very hardworking and reliable individual.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Helping high school students prepare for the ACT math section is one of my specialties. My personal ACT math score range is 34-36. I am an ACT math EXPERT. I have a number of ACT practice tests (including tests which were formally given to all high school students), and I use these tests to help my students not only learn and review the content, but also to feel more comfortable and confident with this exam. I review every incorrect answer and explain to my students why their answers are incorrect and how to determine the correct answers.
While helping students study for the ACT Reading section, I have them read and analyze each reading passage so I can develop a personalized strategy for every student. I ask reading comprehension questions as they read each passage in order to teach them active reading strategies specific to each passage (the four passages are Prose Fiction, Social Science, Humanities, and Natural Science). Then, I'll review each question type with them and show them how to find the answers in the passage. Of course, not every question requires a simple glance back at the passage, so I teach students how to use inferencing and elimination strategies to choose the correct answer. I frequently hear from students how easy it is to choose the correct answer after having been shown appropriate reading passage strategies.
I tutor all 4 sections of the ACT exam: English, Math, Reading, and Science. I have a number of ACT practice tests (including tests which were formally given to all high school students), and I use these tests to help my students not only learn and review the content, but also to feel more comfortable and confident with this exam. I review every incorrect answer and explain to my students why their answers are incorrect and how to determine the correct answers.
I have tutored middle and high school students in algebra for over ten years, and I love helping students become confident and successful math learners. I currently teach an 8th grade honors algebra 1 course (our middle school uses the Big Ideas Math Algebra 1 online series). For those of you who are familiar with high school math classes called Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, and Math 4, I tutor those as well.
I've helped students learn Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Intermediate Algebra, and College Algebra for over 10 years. I love teaching algebra and getting my students excited about math- I feel so proud when they smile and say, "I didn't know algebra could be this easy!" For some high school students, they learn algebra 2, geometry, and some trig in Math 3. For those of you who are familiar with high school math classes called Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, and Math 4, I tutor those as well.
I've taught English Composition at Metropolitan State University of Denver as an Adjunct Faculty member.
I have 10+ years of GED tutoring experience.
I have been tutoring students in algebra and geometry for over ten years and currently teach a high school geometry course to middle school G/T students. I've found that a successful geometry student has solid algebra 1 skills, so if I tutor a student who struggles with geometry, I'll also help this student strengthen his or her algebra skills.
I taught a night general science class (physical science) at Metropolitan State University of Denver. I have a B.S. Degree in Nutrition Science and have taught/tutored science for well over 10 years. I currently teach 7th and 8th grade physical science and life science.
I have taken and passed the Praxis 1 exam and scored in the top 10 percentile in all three tested subject areas (I received a perfect score on the Praxis 1 essay). I've also tutored for the Praxis II Elementary Education Content Exam (5014) and have study materials for this exam.
I have over ten years of experience tutoring pre-algebra and algebra to middle and high school students and college students. I've taught math at Metropolitan State University of Denver as an Adjunct Faculty member (I helped students prepare for the elementary and college level math Accuplacer exam), and I love helping students become confident and successful math learners. I currently teach 7th and 8th grade honors pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry classes (our middle school uses the Big Ideas Math online series).
Precalculus, otherwise known as Math 4, can be very challenging for students. Personally, I find this course exciting and look forward to helping my students understand the content. For those of you who are familiar with high school math classes called Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, and Math 4, I tutor students in all four of these courses.
I have almost 10 years of experience preparing students to take the PSAT.
Many students struggle with reading comprehension concepts like analyzing the author's purpose, finding a main idea or central theme, or making reasonable conclusions based on paragraph/story evidence. I find that 1:1 tutoring allows these struggling students to freely vent their frustrations and ask questions they may never ask in class, for fear of publicizing their self-doubt and confusion to their teacher and classmates. When students feel comfortable with their tutor, they develop a sense of trust; once the trust is formed, students finally begin to grow self-confident. This self-confidence is the catalyst for academic success: higher grades, positive self-esteem, and love for learning and exploring. A self-confident student is a successful, happy student!
I have tutored SAT math for almost 10 years. I know the SAT is being redesigned (launch date spring 2016), and I've started researching and practicing new strategies for the new test in order to best prepare my students. I'm excited for the changes and I think students will feel more confident with the content and structure of this exam.
As a native Marylander, I am quite familiar with the SAT exam. I began helping students prepare for this exam in 2001 and have, personally, scored a perfect 800 in both the math and writing portions of the exam (my highest critical reading score is a 750, which is a 98 percentile rank). Most students struggle with the vocabulary questions found in the critical reading sections of the exam, so helping students build a stronger vocabulary is an integral part of my SAT teaching strategy. I use practice tests and give homework in order to maximize student learning/understanding to ensure that my students earn higher SAT test scores.
I've tutored students to prepare for all sections of the SAT for over 10 years.
Trig can be quite a task for a lot of students and I found the best way to tackle the content is to memorize identities and solve practice problems. Knowing how to start can make a seemingly complicated problem appear easy. :)
Teaching students the art of writing has been a passion of mine since I was in high school; my first job as a tutor was as a writing tutor when I was only 14 years old. I created a writing "club" to provide English and writing assistance to student athletes needing to maintain academic eligibility. In college, I continued tutoring student athletes and spent most of my time teaching writing and grammar to the football players. Since earning my B.S. in 1997, I've tutored hundreds of students in all academic content areas and have built my career doing what I love: teaching. :)
