I've just returned from serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia for over 2 years, teaching English as a second language and perfecting my Spanish fluency. Prior to that I worked as an English, grammar and writing tutor for 7 years, working in a university tutoring center,a university teaching and learning center and as a private tutor.
I begin tutoring sessions with an informal discussion about the student's subjects, challenges and learning style. Then, we will brainstorm strategies for the most effective learning, including setting a schedule for topics and concepts we plan to learn. When tutoring writing, I enjoy incorporating writing exercises and free writing sessions, as well as reading time to familiarize the student with strong writing concepts. In ESL or Spanish tutoring, I like to approach the language tangibly, with real-life scenarios and kinesthetic activities. I have worked with learning disabilities informally, which are a fun challenge for innovative teaching and learning strategies.
I am a recent graduate, magna cum laude, with degrees in Intercultural Communication and Spanish, with a side certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician. I live in the Inland Empire of California, and I plan to begin graduate school for international affairs and public policy next fall.
I'm passionate about the process of learning and I enjoy helping people achieve their goals. I have substantial experience working with children and young adults as a Peace Corps volunteer, tutor, youth leader, humanitarian volunteer and big sister!
Students or parents, I invite you to contact me for an experienced, dedicated and responsible tutor in English, grammar, writing, ACT skills, Spanish, history, social studies or any other humanities subject.
I look forward to hearing from you! Hi there!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I attended accredited private schools associated with the Seventh-day Adventist church from second grade through college (15 years of Bible class!). These schools required at least one religion or Bible studies course per semester, including world religions, doctrine, and biblical exegesis classes.
