Stanford University (PhD)
I have always had a love of learning and teaching. I have worked with students for over 20 years. I started tutoring when I was in high school. I tutored fellow high school students in Math starting my junior year. When I attended Cal Poly, I tutored science and engineering students on campus. And finally, when I studied at Stanford University for graduate work I taught undergraduate classes in chemical engineering. After graduate school I worked in the semiconductor industry and then retired to raise my three daughters. Now that I have more free time I decided to get back into tutoring and working with students. I will work hard to help you learn the material and master the concepts.
I specialize in tutoring Math, Chemistry, Physics, and Chemical Engineering courses. I look forward to hearing from you.

James helped me review concepts that I was having difficulty with in my university level physics class. He clearly explained problems and pointed out when I was on the right track, which helped me become more confident in attacking problems. James responded quickly to my request for tutoring and was available when I needed to meet in preparation for tests.
James was very good at explaining Physics through examples. He was very efficient at helping me set up problems and was great at helping me understand conceptually.
James is a very thorough and knowlegable. He helped my daughter with her AP chemistry. He made difficult problems easy to understand. He is a great tutor. Definitely recommend him to anyone who needs chemistry tutor.
My daughter has only had two tutoring sessions for her physics class and James has helped her enormously already she has had a great experience with James as her tutor!!
James is knowledgeable and has a way of simplifying difficult concepts until it can be understood by the student. He ensures that the student has a firm understanding before moving on. And even if sometimes that may take a little longer, he is always patient and creative in his approach. Nothing but kudos for James!
My daughter just had her first session with James. He was able to explain her physics in a really clear manner. She felt so much more confidence after just one session. He was prompt and very encouraging towards her. Thanks!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
