About Armon

Dr. Armon is a recent medical school graduate awaiting the start of residency. He has been a tutor for more than 10 years and has taught students at multiple academic grade-levels including elementary and middle school, high school, college/university, and grad school. He has experience teaching a multitude of subjects as outlined in his profile.
Known for his creative and innovative teaching style, Armon implements various techniques uniquely designed to accommodate each student based on his/her specific educational needs. For example, conceptualizing difficult-to-understand topics and relating them to our day-to-day-life in order to not only enable and enhance the student’s ability to learn the subject matter quickly but to also enjoy it while learning it. He has also mastered the art of building “mnemonics” which was an excellent tool for himself as it allowed for a much easier learning process before and during medical school. Many of his students find mnemonics very effective and fun in their learning experience.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Armon also enjoys helping his students enhance and improve their study skills by introducing different approaches that they can utilize not only towards achieving their goals in a subject area, but also in their non-academic life and towards achieving their goals. Additionally, Armon's dynamic manner in which he approaches every one of his students’ academic needs, helps to individualize the theme among each of his student-teacher relationships.

Armon strongly believes in the infamous idiom "there is more than one way to skin a cat". It is no secret that we all learn in different ways, therefore he believes it is imperative for a tutor/teacher to be flexible and to maintain a dynamic approach in choosing the appropriate teaching technique. Furthermore, he does not limit his teaching strategy to one single strategy. Rather, his style of teaching comprises of finding the single best strategy to approach the student's educational needs based on the characteristics of each individual student such as study habits, age, attitude, future goals and plans, and even ethnicity, thanks to an extensive training in Cultural Competencies as a required part of his medical training. Armon is confident that you will find his teaching style very effective and pleasant.

Cheers,

Armon

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

A medical graduate, with Master's degree in physiology, expert knowledge of human Anatomy and many years of experience (including teaching high school and graduate students) in tutoring Anatomy at various levels. My goal is to have students successful and motivated in Anatomy and share my love of the structure and internal workings of the human body. I work diligently to create a dynamic teaching method, including lesson plans and other study plans, that will be unique based on each individual student's educational needs. This includes using real life experiences that I have earned throughout my years of training as a medical doctor which have given me the opportunity to witness at first hand a great number of pathologies and diseases related to the human anatomy and am able to demonstrate why and how knowledge of Anatomy was essential during each of those endless encounters. I have had a great and positive response from many of my students with whom I have shared certain pertinent experiences which has helped them relate to the subject and subsequently become much more interested and enthusiastic about the subject and wanting to learn it.

Genetics

A medical school graduate, with Master's degree in physiology, expert knowledge of genetics and many years of experience (including teaching high school and graduate students) in tutoring genetics at various levels. i also tutor/teach home schooled students, both alone and in groups. My goal is to have students successful and motivated in genetics and share my love of the genetic properties and features of an organism, especially humans. I work diligently to create a dynamic teaching method, including lesson plans and other study plans, that will be unique based on each individual student's educational needs. This includes using real life experiences that I have earned throughout my years of training as a medical doctor which have given me the opportunity to witness at first hand a great number of pathologies and diseases related to the genetics and am able to demonstrate why and how knowledge of genetics was essential during many of those endless encounters. I have had a great and positive response from many of my students with whom I have shared certain pertinent experiences which has helped them relate to the subject better and subsequently become much more interested and enthusiastic about it and actually wanting to learn it.

MCAT

During the past decade of tutoring, with a diverse group of students (ages 7-55) in various subjects, I have helped a high school senior increase her MCAT score from 28 to 34 in 10 hours of tutoring over 5 weeks; I assisted a UC Davis Junior to improve her MCAT Biological Section score from 4 to 10 after our first 2-hour meeting; assisted university/college students to succeed in Pre-Med courses (biology, microbiology, anatomy, physiology); helped returning students (computer engineers, business executives, etc) to explore/excel in new fields. All in all, I teach others how to learn, in and out of the classroom. In addition to enhancing their academic/career performance, I cherish the rapport and confidence I have built with them over years of communication even after the academic assistance is no longer necessary.

I am a recent medical school graduate (August 2014) awaiting the start of residency. I have taught extensively in the following areas/test preps:
MCAT Biological Sciences
DAT Biological sciences
Immunology, Neurobiology, Genetics, Molecular Toxicology, Bio, Anatomy, Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Microbiology, Oncology (Biology of Cancer), Pharmacology, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Psychology, General and Advanced Biology, Mathematics, and much more.
K-12 Science and Math:
AP sciences and test prep (biology, physiology, anatomy, etc)
SAT I & II Sciences
Additional services I offer:
1. Curriculum planning
2. Application help (college/grad school)
3. Mentorship/support
4. Counseling
5. School/work/life balance consultation

We can meet close to where I am or at your designated place (as long as it is within my travel radius) or I can tutor you online. I've tutored numerous out-of-state and oversea students. WyzAnt's new online tutoring platform, Google video chat and skype, among other cyber classroom support, have made online tutoring extremely convenient and efficient.

Microsoft Windows

Throughout the past 20+ years I have not only worked with computers and different versions of Microsoft windows for my own personal use, but have had to train myself in other areas pertaining to the windows operating system such as programming, software diagnostics, Microsoft office, etc...
I started helping users with their computers here and there up until approximately 8 years ago when I started tutoring users of windows as well as computer science students. I have had students at various levels of computer competency and literacy some of which needed tutoring particularly for different applications of Microsoft Windows such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. In addition, I have tutored a number of other users at the beginning's level Who simply needed to get acquainted with the Windows operating system before teaching them how to use the system for their personal and professional use whether it is in social media advertising, Internet search and research, blog posting, or simple every day browsing where I particularly taught them how to browse efficiently and how to get the maximum results out of their browsing experience.

Pharmacology

I am a medical doctor with an M.D. degree earned in 2015. As part of the intense training that is required of every medical graduate in the U.S., candidates of the M.D. degree are required to complete one year of basic pharmacology followed by two years of advanced/applied pharmacology as it relates to disease prevention and treatment. Additionally, as a requirement of the MD curriculum as well as for post-graduate medical training US medical licensure, medical doctors are subject to and my satisfactorily pass, national board examinations (which many deem as some of the toughest professional exams in the world) which consist of four separate 8 to 15 hour examinations (USMLE step 1, step 2 CK, step 2 CS, step 3) all of which test the physicians knowledge of pharmacology their ability to apply that knowledge in clinical practice. I have completed and scored well above the national average on all four of those exams. Moreover, I have over 10 years of tutoring experience the last five of which have included tutoring students in an array of non-medical as well as advanced medical subjects such as pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, and many more. I employ various teaching methods that are student and subject-specific which I determined on a case-by-case basis after an initial assessment and evaluation of the student's capabilities and educational needs. These methods include, but are not limited to: SODOTO (see one, do one, teach one), experiential teaching where real life examples are used and the students are asked to apply their knowledge in order to arrive at the correct, as well as some unconventional methods (where appropriate and necessary) such as motivational counseling and problem-solving skill-building prior to subject specific teaching.
