French

I was born in Paris and studied at the Sorbonne. I am a professional writer and published author. In addition to coaching students in various level of French and writing I have been volunteered teaching French in both of my children's classrooms since Kindergarten all the way through AP exams. I do this because I love to teach and I'm good at it. My way of teaching is simple: adapt to each student's preferred learning style (visual, auditory, written, or a combination of those). I'm also a firm believer in having a fun while learning. I identify the student's weaknesses, strengths, and level, and build on it. Then I go about getting the student 'unstuck'. Is the student shy? Is the student making the same mistakes again and again? Has the student reached a plateau? Together we make a plan with goals, but the key to me is to make the lesson fun. Fun lessons stick because they are pleasurable. I have tricks to help students remember. Also as a native speaker I'm able to help the student 'feel' the language and distinguish what he or she needs to know while filtering out the tedious or unnecessary. I can greatly help with accent reduction. The entire lesson is placed within the social context of life in France, to make it more concrete, dynamic and fun. Whether you want to become comfortable conversing, gear up for a trip to a French-speaking country, or in need to a rigorous AP test prep, I will be there listening, adjusting, and supporting, and never boring you, I promise. Because to me teaching is about a relationship and a little bit of psychology. With this process and techniques I can really help the student go to the next level in a way that is relaxed, yet effective. I can't wait to meet you and speak some Français with you ! A Bientôt!

English

I learned English a second language when I was 23 and now write professionally in English. Because I am familiar with the struggles and difficulties of learning a new language through immersion in a new culture I am uniquely suited to help foreign speakers learn English and reduce their accents. My mother's tongue is French. One thing I can help you with is accent reduction. It took me a while to master my own accent until that moment when it all suddenly made sense. I can help you erase bad habits and form new ones. As you know, it is hard to be taken seriously when you do not speak the language. Together we can bring you to the next level. Corine
Writing

Writing

In addition to tutoring student in my native language, which is French, I am professional writer and speaker on the topic of creative writing. Because I had to learn English at the age of 23 and ended up making most of my living from writing in a language other than my own, I am uniquely suited to teach students who have difficulties in writing. Sometimes it is an issue of ideas, creativit, and letting oneself dare for self-expression. Sometimes it is about sentence structure and not knowing how to convey a idea in a way that packs punch yet is simple. Sometimes it about vocabulary or understanding how to add imagery, senses, and descriptions. In all cases I can rapidly evaluate the problem and help the student tackle it. The earlier a person learns to write effectively and squash bad habits the better, but even adults can suddenly 'see the light' and become confident writers. I'm here to help!

Easy going, friendly and knowledgeable

Corine was a great tutor. She tailored the lesson to my level and I felt very comfortable with her teaching style. She knew the proper balance of correcting my mistakes when I spoke French but at the same time not making me feel too intimidated to speak.

Terrific French Teacher!

Corine is very knowledgeable, patient and focused. She's creative in finding ways to help the student make connections which helps with retention and keeps the lessons fun. She speaks a beautiful, clear French which can make all the difference when learning with a native speaker. My daughter very much enjoys her lessons with Corine!
