I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and graduated from University of Hawaii at Manoa in May 2012 with a BS in Meteorology and a Minor in Mathematics. I have recently finished my Master's in Applied Meteorology at Mississippi State University in 2014 and recently finished a professional certificate in Geographic Information Systems in 2016. Throughout my education, I have gained a background in Chemistry, Physics, and of course Math. Ever since I was young, Math has been one of my favorite subjects and it is evident in my experiences. I have always helped my friends in Math when growing up, whether it be Algebra or Calculus. I started getting paid for it during college when I tutored students in Pre-Calculus to upper level Calculus courses. I have tutored students that are Engineering majors to those going into law. Teaching a huge array of people that come from different backgrounds, I have to tutor in a way that everyone is able to understand. Additionally, my degree in Meteorology helps those that are in Chemistry and Physics as the fundamentals of meteorology require a background in these fields. Whether it be kinematics or gas laws, all of these fit into the structure of the field; though most students come to me for help in Math. My approach with students is to try to work with them to solve the problems. I show them the basics of their questions and work from there to help them fully comprehend what the questions want you to do. I need to show the students how to solve the problems on their own. That way, when a test comes around they will know the concepts and how to solve their problems for themselves. I try to make it fun like a puzzle that needs to be solved. I know problems can be frustrating when you don't get the right answers, but my job is to give them the knowledge and confidence to not only solve the problems at hand, but also to incorporate these assets in their everyday lives. In my free time, I enjoy going hiking to see the magnificent views the world has to offer! I also love seeing amazing weather phenomena, video games, being outdoors, and having a good time with friends and family.

My son Gabe is being tutored by Gavin in honors geometry as an 8th grader. He says that Gavin is a great teacher because he helps him understand the concepts in geometry so that he can apply them to any problem. His middle school teacher teaches, he says, how to do stuff, but doesn't teach clearly the concepts behind what he is asking the students to do. Gavin's also always prompt and has a great and easy rapport with my son.Mary, 44 lessons with Gavin

Lots of positive energy
Gavin replied quickly to our short notice call for a tutor. He was available the same day, and was on time with a great attitude. He definitely helped our daughter with her chemistry, particularly the chemistry math. It is easy to recommend him, and we do.Becky, 1 lesson with Gavin
Extremely Happy With the Results
Gavin is a wonderful tutor. My 14-year-old son looks forward to his tutoring sessions once a week and has been learning the concepts required to problem solve on his own. His study habits have also improved to where he is completing the work begun during tutoring on his own. My son respects Gavin and listens to him. More importantly, my son is learning. Gavin is always on time and is extremely trustworthy and likable. We are extremely happy with the results and would highly recommend Gavin as a tutor in both math and science.Dorothy, 24 lessons with Gavin
