About Sheila

"If you can't explain it simply, then you don't understand it well enough" - Albert Einstein

Over time, my diverse educational, research, clinical, and teaching experiences have confirmed my passion for learning and have inspired me to do more.

I completed my B.S. in Health Promotion & Disease Prevention Studies at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC) in 2011. During my senior year, I participated in a service- learning experience at a local high school, where I taught classes about health and disease. I was honored to use my knowledge to help the students make responsible decisions about their health and behavior. On a practical basis, I also learned how to present sensitive and technical information in an understandable way.

By nature, I am a driven person who takes considerable pride in completing challenging tasks in an effective manner. I work well with students of all ages and strongly believe that students improve with tutoring. I have working knowledge of Fundamentals of Biology, Human Biology, Organismal and Evolutionary Biology, Cell Biology and Physiology, Origins of humanity, Anatomy, Inorganic Chemistry, Epidemiology, General Psychology, Growth and Development, Lifespan Development, Pre-algebra, college Algebra 1 and 2, college Geometry, Religious and Ethical philosophies, Public Health Issues, research methods, English composition and literature, and am also fluent in English and Farsi.

Through my various work assignments, I have built satisfying relationships with an eclectic group of people. My upbringing in a racially diverse household makes this easy for me. In my extended family, we have members who are white, black, Hispanic, Filipino and Persian. We also speak different languages and hold different religious beliefs. Through a lifetime of discussions, parties, and shared events, I have come to understand and respect each person’s unique beliefs and customs. This perspective will be invaluable to my career as a professional tutor.

Looking ahead, I am eager to pursue a specialty that will allow me to work with students in a learning environment. Private tutoring is a perfect fit for my background and goals. On a competitive basis, I will bring several unique strengths to tutoring, including a bachelor of science and extensive volunteer, clinical, research, and teaching experience. Most importantly, I will bring my fervent desire to use my knowledge, dedication and skills to make a lasting difference in my community and in the lives of my students who put their trust in me.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
