I have taught English and Creative Writing to grades three through twelve. I have also tutored high school and college students to write papers on literature. Working with California Poets in the Schools, I have conducted poetry workshops in grammar schools, middle schools and high schools.
I approach students with an open mind, seeking their strengths and teaching them build upon those strengths. This approach helps students gain the self-confidence required to succeed with the subjective nature of writing and interpreting literature.
I encourage students to use their own experiences to relate to literature and get immense satisfaction when they begin to appreciate great writing on their own.
I am a writer who works from home and I have a reasonably flexible schedule. I enjoy working with students and watching them learn. This is why I am interested in tutoring. David is an excellent English tutor, and it is a pleasure working with him. He is patient, reliable, and very knowledgeable. He is passionate about what he teaches and loves Shakespeare!! He makes every effort to work around my son’s hectic schedule, always ready to work even on short notice, and never leaves a call or text unanswered.
My son’s grade has improved significantly but, most importantly, my son looks forward to meeting with David as he feels he learns more with him than he does with his school teacher. We are very lucky to have met David. He is definitely one of the best tutors!! We will be using him for at least the rest of my son’s high school years.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught English to high school students in private schools. I have also worked with California Poets in the Schools, going into high schools to teach students how to write poetry.
