With 25 years of experience as a professional writer and filmmaker--with dozens of projects produced that have reached tens of millions of viewers offline and on--with screenplays written that have been optioned by major studios and networks--and as a contributing blogger to the nation's most highly trafficked news and opinion website--I'm at a point in my life where I have a powerful drive to share what I know with those who are just starting their climb.
I'm offering my services to a handful of clients who really want to learn how to produce or edit films and videos, or how to write creatively. Or who just need help in certain aspects of the visual or literary arts. Or who need help learning the ins and outs of Macintosh computers, which I've been using for more than 20 years.
I'm extremely patient and organized, and drawing on my experience teaching dozens and dozens of interns and young employees, I approach tutoring on a customized basis, tailoring my approach to the needs and skills of the learner. I don't believe one size fits all, so I'm creatively adaptive to help ensure the right information is presented at the right time in the right way. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
There's not a whit of difference in teaching film vs. video production. So please refer to my description under the Video Production heading.
I love showing people the many great features on Macs, and that goes for the iPad and iPhone too. I've been using Macs since the very first one in 1984, and am currently using a new iMac. Whether you need help with music, email, photos, calendar, spreadsheets, or word processing -- whether you just want general everyday how to do this or that on your computer, or whether you want advanced skills in video editing -- I can help you.
I've been using Macs since the day the first one came out in 1984. I've had a dozen machines ever since, always staying up on the latest in both hardware and software. I also use Macs exclusively in my film and video production work. And I've taught dozens of friends and employees the ins and outs of Macs for many years.
I also think it's important to teach this stuff in a conversational and intuitive way, rather than getting too technical. For those who are techie types, however, I'm there for you as well. But most people just want to know how to use their computer in ways that make their lives or jobs or schoolwork easier and/or more fun or more productive.
I have you covered in all departments.
I've been a professional filmmaker for over 25 years. I started out producing very high profile music-videos, generating eight #1 MTV hits. In recent years, I've shifted into feature-length documentaries (for PBS and others), and innovative web videos for a nonprofit organization I started.
My extensive credits are available on request. I can teach you an enormous amount about production, and everything there is to know about editing -- which is the last step in creating a film or video, but often the most important.
