L. A. Pierce College - AA (Other)
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UCLA and a current California teaching credential. I teach for LAUSD as a substitute teacher and have also taught dance for Pierce College Extension so I have been "live scanned" and cleared by both institutions. I have been told by both LAUSD teachers who have observed my dance classes and by parents who have observed my Pierce College dance classes that I am the most creative and patient teacher they have ever experienced.
I am available to tutor any time during the day or after school between 3-5 p.m. or on Saturdays after 2 p.m. or on Sundays any time. My subject forte is Dance but English is a close second. I have always received very high marks on all of my essays when attending my UCLA AND CSUN. When employed by a major Wall Street firm, I received many compliments for my composition abilities and was completely trusted to handle all business correspondence.
I have taken a college level "Scriptwriting" class and have completed two feature film scripts. I have also completed three Children's books and have taken a college level class in writing for children. I spent many years working for that Wall Street firm, first as a Registered Associate and later as a Financial Adviser; therefore,I learned a great deal over those years about investments and economics. I believe my training and licensing to become a Financial Advisor was complete enough to support my ability to tutor high school Economics as well as Home Economics.
I have always been a home cook since I was tall enough to reach a stove and received high praise by everyone who has tasted my cooking. I was taught the culinary arts by my mother, a native of Naples, Italy, and I love to teach those old world recipes to others.
I have been described as very responsible, punctual, organized, eloquent in my communication skills and able to use analogies and metaphors to help students, young and old, understand difficult concepts in lessons. I love to teach and share the knowledge and experience I have acquired over my lifetime. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UCLA and a current California teaching credential. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from UCLA and over 35 years experience in dance. I have been teaching dance off and on for just as long. My training is in Modern, Ballet and Jazz. I am a choreographer. I co-directed our non-profit dance company, Comtempus Ars Theatre for ten years in the Hollywood area. I choreographed and directed theatrical dance concerts, premiering original works, in local venues. As part of our company outreach, we brought dance into low income areas of Hollywood through a couple of Parks and Recreation centers programs, offering classes in exchange for rehearsal space. I have taught "Creative Dance for Children" and "Tots In Motion" for Pierce College Extension since 2005. I have been employed as a dance teacher by LAUSD's Elementary Arts Prototype Program since 2006. I have been told by LAUSD teachers who have observed my dance classes that I am the most creative teacher they have ever experienced. I have received the same feedback from parents who have watched my dance classes at Pierce College Extension with the additional comments that I am very patient with children. I love to share my deep knowledge of dance with students of all ages. I have Letters of Recommendation if required. I also have DVDs of our company concerts.
I feel I am qualified to assist job seekers in career development because I spent twenty-one years working for a major Wall Street firm, Smith Barney. I began as a Sales Assistant working for between 3 to 9 Financial Consultants at a time and then became a "Registered" senior sales assistant. My job responsibilities included customer service with high net worth clients, composing business correspondence, opening new accounts, processing documents and entering trade orders, keeping up trade book-keeping and also trouble shooting operational problems. After eighteen years, I became a "Financial Adviser" trainee which meant that I was in a training program for three years to become a Financial Consultant myself. In this program, I had to cold-call and network in an effort to develop my own client book, meet with prospective clients to determine their investment needs and financial condition, prepare an investment strategy plan and then implement that plan by opening the appropriate account and make the appropriate investments in that account. I entered this program during the most difficult period of times on Wall Street and managed to hit all of my quotas for the first two and a half years but as things became more difficult on Wall Street, I could not finish the last quarter of my training program and decided to resign in order to pursue a different career path.
