In my heart of hearts, I am a writer. I love words, and the thought of stringing a few together to make a sentence. Add a few more and there is a paragraph, until finally you have a story. I am almost 52 years old, and I have 17 years of professional experience in media, publishing, marketing, public relations, social media. I have an Associate of Arts degree in Journalism and public relations, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication with Magna Cum Laude honors (3.68 GPA) from Arizona State University in 2014.
We all have a voice, a talent, and something we want to say. I will help you find that voice inside, to unleash the creative juices. I also will help you with editing, alternative learning, how to use resources and research tools to bolster your English, grammar, and much more. Knowing how to write and communicate effectively is a life skill that will carry both young and older or returning students through life, not just through a short tutoring course. I believe in my abilities as a grammar and English coach, mentor, and tutor, and look forward to working with you.
I raised two sons while working in the newspaper industry as an editor and staff writer, public relations manager, and marketing professional. I have been a media consultant, volunteered as a docent at a museum, and served as managing editor for 12 digital magazines. In all of these positions, I was responsible for the integrity of all published and communicated material. But, above all of the accolades, I LOVE to teach and mentor others, especially with writing and grammar. I love to write, passionate about words, the thesaurus, and watching new writers and student evolve and find their voice!
I am a great at offering alternative solutions and kickstarting the creative engines. Writing can be extremely intimidating, especially to those who do not have the confidence. I will be a great mentor and coach to cheer you on, just as I have in the past with many others. I have a great demeanor, and am compassionate and understanding, and I expect the lessons and any tutorials or research to be completed on time. I respect you, you respect me. You will succeed! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I still have my report cards from elementary school -- my very first report card in first grade has a comment "Tina excels in handwriting and takes pride in her work." This has never changed. Penmanship is a lost art with all of the electronics, it is a core function in education, business, and life. Teaching the basics of print, and moving on to cursive was something I helped my own children with.
For the past 17 years, I have worked as a professional in marketing, advertising, public relations, promotion, and journalism. As a journalist and editor it is my duty to have a wide vocabulary in order to explain to others. As a grammar coach and mentor it is important to have a patient and calm manner when teaching others to read as sometimes the mind doesn't work as quick as we like. The key to reading is understanding the sounds of letters and vowels, and how they work together to form words and sentences. I have always loved to read to myself and outloud to my children as they followed along, and then one day they start reading it back after repetitiveness. Watching the eyes of kids light up when they are able to understand the story is an awesome achievement!
