My name is Kim B. I am excited to have this opportunity to assist children, teens and/or adults with their educational development. I hold a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of California, San Diego; a master's degree in Philosophy from San Diego State University; and a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from the University of the West in Rosemead, CA. Besides my general expertise in the areas of the Humanities, I can tutor specific areas such as reading, writing, basic English, research, study skills, paper organizing and writing, as well as other topics associated with reading, writing and research.
I enjoy helping people learn the skills they need to be an empowered student. I am an action oriented person, meaning I actively seek solutions to issues, especially classroom or learning problems. One of my strongest assets is the ability to assist in the development of logical and organized thinking, as well as providing a structure and framework within which each student can operate successfully. If appropriate, I will seek to bring in any and all other sources that may be helpful. I will also change up my approach and methods if required. I am very adaptable and have learned that different students often require different approaches to tutoring. I am also very patient.
I look forward to working with you. Thank you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am also an acupuncturist and herbalist (I have a Master's degree in Oriental Medicine). I am a vegetarian of more than 30 years. I have studied herbs, food, vitamins and supplements for 35 years.
I graduated with a Ph.D. in Religious Studies in May 2012. I have taught religion to children and adults in social and university settings.
During my 30 years of college and through my studies of religion and philosophy, I have also extensively studies sociology. I have specifically studied the history and doctrines of the Sociology of Religion, but I have an excellent working knowledge of sociological theories in general.
I have taught study skills for more than 25 years. I taught study skills at SDSU and as President of the Ph.D. Club at the University of the West. I can adapt the specificity of the lessons dependent upon the topic.
