About Easter

NOTICE: I will be on maternity leave starting early October and will only be available to tutor online on a limited basis until I return. I look forward to working with you!

Hello! I'm very excited that you are embarking on this enlightening journey, and I'd be happy to help you as you pursue your educational endeavors! I primarily tutor in PSAT/SAT/ACT/CBEST test preparation, English, and mathematics up through trigonometry. I am also available to read over, comment on, edit and correct essays, including college and graduate school admissions essays, theses, and dissertations.

I'm highly motivated and encouraging as a teacher. I graduated summa cum laude with a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from Biola University and cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Social Thought and departmental honors. I had multiple appearances on the Dean's Honors List and numerous honor society memberships under my belt. On the 2004/2005 SAT, I scored a 1520 out of the then possible 1600. I also scored 800 in Writing and 780 in Math IIC subject tests.

In high school, I went through the rigorous International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programs, successfully completing the classes and tests in English, Spanish, Economics, Physics AB, U.S. History, and Calculus AB/BC, as well as earning medals in Biology and Geography of Non-Western Cultures.

Besides tutoring, I also teach SAT Writing and Critical Reading and ACT English and Reading through Elite Educational Institute, which named me 2012's Teacher of the Year, and was the graduate coordinator of the Biola University Writing Center.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I have been teaching ACT English through Elite Educational Institute, helping many students improve their understanding of the structure and content of the test.

Algebra 1

For the past several years, I have been working with students to improve their understanding of and grades in mathematics ranging from the elementary level to pre-calculus.

Algebra 2

For the past several years, I have been working with students to improve their understanding of and grades in mathematics ranging from the elementary level to pre-calculus.

CBEST

I have prepared for and passed the CBEST and am ready to help other students do the same. I graduated Cum Laude from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Social Thought and departmental honors.

College Counseling

I have helped many students improve their personal statements for college, including through Elite Educational Institute, which named me 2012's Teacher of the Year. I work with these students either in person or online (with them emailing their papers to me for my comments and corrections).

Elementary Math

For the past several years, I have worked with many students to improve their understanding of and grades in elementary-level mathematics so it becomes less of a daunting subject for them.

English

I have Bachelor of Arts in English from UCLA, from which I graduated cum laude. I have been tutoring students in English and essay writing since college and also teaching Grammar and Writing through a successful area tutoring center.

ESL/ESOL

I have a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics and a departmental TESOL certificate from Biola University, from which I graduated summa cum laude. I was also the University's Writing Center coordinator, working mainly with ESL/EFL students to improve their English writing skills.

GED

I am well acquainted with test preparation skills.

Geometry

For the past several years, I have been working with students to improve their understanding of and grades in mathematics. In geometry, students are usually thrown off by proofs and memorization, but after we work together, students usually become more comfortable with the subject.

Prealgebra

For the past several years, I have been working with students to improve their understanding of and grades in mathematics including prealgebra. I focus on improving students' confidence in their work and building on their existing skills.

Proofreading

For the past several years, I have been proofreading writings that have ranged from simple emails to Ph.D. dissertations, including application personal statements, high school and college papers, and masters theses. I enjoy helping students to get their ideas out of their heads on onto pages, reducing as much anxiety as possible along the way. I am available to proofread both online and in person.

PSAT

I am qualified to teach PSAT Writing, Critical Reading, and Mathematics. I also teach SAT and ACT in those subjects. I was also a National Merit Finalist in high school.

SAT Math

I am qualified and able to teach SAT Math, which I have tutored in for the past several years. When I took the SAT, I scored an 800 on the Math section, 800 on the Math IC subject test, and 780 on the Math IIC.

SAT Reading

I am qualified and able to teach SAT Critical Reading. I have tutored in the subject for the past several years and taught it through Elite Educational Institute, which named me 2012's Teacher of the Year.

SAT Writing

I am qualified and able to teach SAT Critical Reading, Math, and Writing. I have tutored in all three for the past several years and taught in the latter two through a successful area tutoring center, which named me 2012's Teacher of the Year.

Trigonometry

I've worked with many students to improve their grades and confidence in trigonometry. I understand that the theorems and identities can often feel overwhelming, and I work with the students so that they can better apply them and find ways to learn them.

Writing

I have been helping students improve their essays for years, both in person and online. I was the coordinator of Biola University's Writing Center, where I worked one on one with undergraduate and graduate students to improve their essays so their voices came through.
