California State University, Long Beach (English Rhetoric and Composition)
I have an AA degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in English and am currently a Junior in California State University, Long Beach majoring in English Rhetoric and Composition, and working on a Technical Professional Writing and Editing Certificate. I have experience tutoring my younger, and even older siblings in English and grammar, I proofread and correct their essays and term papers so that they understand what they did wrong, rather than just marking up their essay in red ink. I try my best to encourage them and show them that a good essay relies on style, as well as content. I am especially skilled in writing essays based on literature and reading comprehension, although I have helped to correct essays written on scientific topics. I can assist in reading comprehension as well as analysis of literature readings and complicated novels. I am a rather laid-back individual who does not easily get off topic or lose my temper. I am patient when someone does not necessarily understand something as well as they should, or as quickly as they should. I understand that some teachers have different requirements and formats and standards than that of what I learned and will do my best to teach in a way that blends a new way of thinking with that of what the student has already been told, so as not to cause further confusion. I will be very professional in my teaching so that I do not waste my time or the student's, but friendly enough to make it a pleasant experience and environment for the student to learn.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently finishing my AA in English at Golden West College and will be pursuing my BA in the subject at CSULB in the fall. I am rather good at writing formal essays and can teach you all the technical points to grammar as well as easy ways to remember how to use them so you can take away a bit of knowledge that will definitely stay with you.
I have written many successful essays and helped to correct and edit many of my friends' and siblings' essays. I have almost completed my AA degree in English and am pursuing my BA at CSULB in this subject by fall. I would love to add tutoring jobs to my resume and would greatly enjoy the experience of teaching others something I am passionate about.
