I am a California credentialed secondary science (grades 7 to 12) teacher with more than 15 years of teaching experience at all academic levels. I have taught bilingual kindergarten as well as AP Biology, Physiology and Physics. I even taught one semester of Introductory Statistics for college freshmen. Most of my teaching assignments were at the junior or senior high school level. I have been a Science Fair Mentor, Coordinator District Judge.
I love to learn and to share my love of learning. My most frequently used words are "How" and "Why?" Therefore,I studied science in college. I wanted to know how things work. Why various things work in certain ways? I graduated with a BS in Microbiology, the scientific study of germs and other very tiny things, from California state University Long Beach. I also have a minor in Chemistry. Think of the classic mad scientist stereotype concocting new medicines or flavors, safely and sanely. After graduating from college, I worked as a Phlebotomy and Laboratory Technician at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. I was a Fermentation Plant Supervisor for a pharmaceutical company. I partnered with the Salk Institute to complete some of the basic research necessary to develop an HIV/AIDS vaccine. I helped launch an HIV detection test with Bio-Rad Laboratories,Inc. I am a Certified Public Health Microbiologist for the State of California.
I look forward to meeting you and working together to improve your academic skills and understanding.

Over the last two academic years, Cheryl has worked with my son in general math and pre-algebra. The accelerated pre-algebra has proven especially difficult for my student. Cheryl has helped him to better understand the material and make better scores on tests and homework. Cheryl has many helpful math tricks to help students remember the material. She is patient and very helpful.
Cheryl has been working with my daughter for approximately 2 months in the areas of Geometry and Chemistry. Cheryl is very patient and has been very flexible with scheduling. My daughter has increased both her confidence and understanding as a result of working with Cheryl.
Cheryl, had a lot of work to do with daughter as she was far behind in class. After each session my daughter would say that she was learning and things were starting to make sense. Cheryl's patience and teaching skills really hit home with this last session, my daughter was actually excited because she really felt ready for the test. Plus she finished on time. Usually she stays longer in order to complete the test.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have 15+ years experience as a math and science teacher. I emphasize the understanding of mathematical concepts to help students succeed in their studies. I use a hands-on, one-on-one approach with real world applications. This approach helps my students connect with basic algebra concepts. By connecting with advanced math concepts, my students are able to study "smarter" and achieve academic success more quickly.
I have 15+ years experience as a Biology and associated Life Sciences instructor. This experience includes Physiology, Microbiology and Health. I am a firm believer in the hands-on, laboratory-based study of science. I personalize my students' lessons to help them connect with their "difficult" subjects. This allows my students to gain a greater understanding of scientific concepts more quickly. They work "smarter" and enjoy a sense of accomplishment from their study time.
I have 15+ years experience as a math and science instructor. I emphasize the logical basis of geometry and highlight the basic concepts underlying each geometric principle. By illustrating the connections between topics, I can use a "hands-on", one-on-one approach to help students connect their own experiences with the subject. This helps them maximize their time spent studying, understand more completely and gain a sense of accomplishment from their efforts.
My first college degree was earned in microbiology.I am a licensed public health microbiologist with 10 years experience in the public, private and clinical sectors.
I have 15+ years experience as a math and science instructor. I use a "hands-on" one-on-one approach to help my students connect their own experiences with their subjects such as prealgebra. I use this life experience connection to demonstrate the everyday relevance of various math principles. My students can study "smarter" thus improving their understanding of basic concepts, maximizing their time spent studying, and gaining a greater sense of accomplishment from their efforts.
