My name is Jordan, and I am a 23 year old male looking to help people of all ages achieve in math, science, and SAT/ACT test preparation.
As a scientist at heart, I love learning and sharing information to help others. To me, teaching and tutoring is the most tangibly rewarding way to accomplish this goal. To be able to really connect with someone face to face, to see where they are coming from, and to talk them through a concept or problem until they understand it perfectly on their own gives me an immense sense of accomplishment - especially when my student shows how they have applied their newly strengthened skills to improve their grades at school, raise their test scores or meet other goals.
I have a long history of tutoring. Throughout middle school and high school, I spent several summers as a teacher's aid in classes at different schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District. I have valuable expertise working with young children and teens diagnosed with learning disabilities and developmental disorders as an experiment coordinator and lab manager at the UC Davis MIND institute. I have also hosted many study groups throughout college, for specific courses and for the GRE, and been successful working with young adults.
I prefer tutoring face to face during normal business hours, but can be flexible by tutoring online or at a time that better suits your needs.
I look forward to working with you! My name is Jordan, and I am a 23 year old male looking to help people of all ages achieve in math, science, and SAT/ACT … Read more
Jordan tutored our son in math, and got our son to engage into the math problem, rather than just review the lesson. Jordan was patient, and very nice. Most of all Jordan really put effort into teaching from an angle of involving our son into discussion and examples. Talking about theories, math concepts, and about tools to use when studying. We are excited that Jordan is our son's tutor. Super excited !
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked in clinical psychology and neuroscience laboratories investigating the cognitive strengths and weaknesses of people with certain special needs, including genetic disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, intellectual disability, anxiety disorders, ADD/ADHD, and autism. As experiment coordinator and lab manager at the 22q Research Center & Clinic, I helped many children and teens work through our lab's research study, which included cognitive testing, neuropsychological evaluation, MRI brain scanning and more. Earning a participant's trust and cooperation was therefore a main skill I developed in my field. This experience is just one of many that makes me believe I am qualified to tutor individuals with special needs.
