About Norbert

I love teaching and learning languages. Born and raised in Europe, I had been exposed to a variety of languages and I am fluent in three, English, Hungarian, and Slovak. I have a Master’s Degree in English Literature and Linguistics, as well as a TEFL Certificate, and I am currently enrolled in a TEFL Diploma course with Oxford Trinity London which is an equivalent of a master’s degree in the UK. I know what language learning entails, its challenges and rewards.

There are many reasons people decide to learn languages and my aim is to make this journey rewarding, and to show that hard work, dedication, and discipline will bear fruit. Teaching is my passion, I love sharing my passion and knowledge for languages, use my experience as both a student and a teacher of foreign languages in delivering lessons that are highly beneficial for my learners, use current, and well tested methods.

I love to motivate, encourage, make lasting impressions, and positively influence my students’ language learning.

I specialize in tutoring and teaching English as a second or foreign language, exam preparatory lessons (IETLS, TOEFL, CAE, FCE), English for specific purposes including but not limited to Business English, English for customer service representatives, English for academic purposes and so on.

I can also teach English phonetics and phonology, grammar, academic writing, English literature, introduction to linguistics, and deliver ESL/EFL teacher training, up-skilling and professional development lessons. I also teach Hungarian with a focus on using a more lexical approach in delivering my lessons and giving my students the skills to use the language actively.

I make sure all of my lessons are well prepared and meet my learner’s expectations; the lessons are challenging but at the same time fully engaging and relatable. I do assign homework after each lesson that can be completed either on paper or online. All materials and handouts are provided by me. The aim is to improve my learners’ overall language skills, grades, and test scores.

I’ve been teaching and tutoring English as a second or foreign language for over 10 years in various countries with thousands of students, all from different cultural backgrounds with different first languages.

I have been teaching and preparing hundreds of students a month for IELTS working for Kaplan International English in Ireland (teaching IELTS, Business, ESP classes to groups no more than 15). I closely cooperated with IELTS examiners, and I am highly familiar with the exam, its structure, tasks and score requirements.

To succeed in these tests, one’s knowledge of language alone may not be sufficient to reach high scores. Throughout my lessons, I will teach you techniques, and tricks to successfully master these tests and to become confident and familiar with them in order to reach your full potential.

Native speaker of the language. I will be using the same language teaching skills and experiences I have acquired through teaching English for over 10 years.

You can contact me through this site to inquire about lessons, planning, and scheduling. Our first meeting will be a needs analysis where we can discuss your aims and set mutual goals. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have been teaching English as a second or foreign language for over 10 years in multiple countries. I am a fully qualified ESL/EFL teachers with a Master's in English and linguistics. I have worked with thousands of students throughout the years. My aim is to help improve and motivate my students to get the most out of speaking English. You'll be assigned homework after every lesson and all handouts and materials will be provided by me. I use various teaching methods to cater to my students' needs. I can teach grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, writing, and of course speaking. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Hungarian

Hello,
I am a native speaker of Hungarian, born to Hungarian parents and raised in Slovakia.
Spent my formative years in a Hungarian speaking environment.
I completed my primary and secondary education in Hungarian mostly; all major subjects, apart from languages, were taught in Hungarian.

I do have multiple certifications teaching English as a foreign and second language and I would be using the same methods in delivering my lessons in Hungarian.

Hungarian grammar and literature were part of my education and I am highly familiar with the concepts regards to syntax, morphology, lexicology, phonetics and phonology and so on. I will be using a more lexical approach in teaching Hungarian due to the complexity and challenges of Hungarian grammar. I thank you for your consideration and look forward to hearing from you at your convenience.

IELTS

Hello,

I have been teaching IELTS exam preparatory courses for over 3 years now. I was working as an ESL/EFL teacher among others for Kaplan International in Dublin, Ireland and was teaching over 15 hours of IELTS classes up to 15 students at a time for years.

The students were from all over the world with various L1s and different levels of English (from CEFR B1-C2). Most of the students were aiming to get a score anywhere between 7 - 9 on the exam to meet enrolment criteria for Irish or other colleges and universities.

I am highly familiar with the exam, its structure, the grading methods used by examiners, the materials and course books used in preparation, also with best practice from my colleagues who were examiners, and students who had taken the exams.

I have also worked on interactive content creation for Kaplan and as part of their QA team gave feedback on in-house made course book materials.

I have also attended workshops for IELTS teachers at various conferences in Dublin and online.

I hope that these skills will be highly beneficial for my future students as being ready to take the exam and pass it with a high score requires more than just language awareness. I can share tips and tricks on what best to focus on during the exam how to efficiently manage time and resources. In addition to these, all materials and exercises will have direct associations with the exam (e.g. reading multiple choice questions, yes/no questions, true-false-not given questions - how to identity key words, the difference between the questions - fact or the authors' opinions, in writing how to describe graphs and data, how to link ideas, develop paragraphs, etc, in listening what to look out for, the number of participants, in speaking how to avoid simple sentences, expand on ideas and topics, etc.)

Thank you for your consideration.
