Throughout my teaching and counseling career, I have worked as a college counselor for non-profit organizations, college preparatory boarding schools, government and scholarship programs and individual families across the country over the last two decades. My familiarity with both public and private institutions and comprehensive knowledge of current admissions and financial aid trends in higher education has helped hundreds of students gain admissions to the nation’s finest colleges and universities. After seven years as an English/American History teacher and district administrator, I began my college counseling career in 2003 when I co-founded CollegeWorks, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing equal access to higher education for inner-city youth in Oakland, California. During my tenure as executive director and director of counseling, I helped over 275 students attend schools such as Amherst, Brown, Colgate, George Washington, Macalester, Northwestern, Occidental, Reed, Scripps, University of California, University of Pennsylvania, Vassar and Williams while receiving over $15,000,000 in direct financial aid. I then served as the Director of College Counseling at The Forman School in Litchfield, Connecticut, a private boarding school for students with learning differences. I have conducted numerous college selection, admissions and financial aid workshops in the, Napa Valley, Oakland, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
I hold three degrees: a B.S. in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley, a M.S.Ed. from California State University, Hayward, and a M.S.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania.
My counseling/tutoring approach is based on self exploration and self expression. By getting to know students on a personal level, I help them identify and express themselves both verbally and in writing to become the most dynamic applicant/writer possible.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a college counselor for 11 years and have helped over 500 students attend the most selective colleges and universities in the country. I will encourage you to take ownership in the college selection process and help you identify, research, apply, and attend the college that best fits your specific interests and needs. Applying to college shouldn't be scary - it should be a celebration of this most exciting time in your life!
I have coached high school golf for six years. As a 6 handicap, I help students learn the fundamentals of the swing as well as golf etiquette. I don't put too much in student's heads - just a few basic concepts too give them some structure and go from there.
