About William

I have been tutoring for over 7 years, working with K-12 and college level students to achieve their academic goals. Having been a Tutoring Program Coordinator at Cal State Los Angeles, I have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of students drastically improve their grades, gain admission into highly selective universities and graduate programs, and achieve outstanding results on the SAT/ACT and MCAT.

I attended Cal State Los Angeles, where I graduated with academic honors for my degree in biochemistry at the young age of 17 years old. I had multiple appearances on the Dean's Honors List and numerous honors society memberships under my belt. Prior to my undergraduate education, at 12 years old, I gained recognition from the Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth and its Study of Exceptional Talent as one of the "700 Brightest Young Students in the World" as a testament to my high marks in the SAT.

I have a patient approach to tutoring, focusing on identifying any potential blocks for the student by providing explanations of the material tailored to the individual student. With my approach, I will quickly fill in the gaps, get you caught up, and teach you how to deal with new concepts on your own. To do that, I will meet you at your level of understanding, wherever that is, and we will build from there. Many students were never taught the basic concepts behind their courses. Because of that, the entire course can be a struggle for them. If you were never taught the basic concepts, we will clear that up first, so you can really understand your subject.

Please feel free to get in touch so we can discuss your needs and goals, and how I can address them. I'm looking forward to working with you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I received honors from Johns Hopkins University for my outstanding SAT/ACT scores in 2011. Since then, I've spent years helping students maximize their scores. I can train students to interpret tricky word problems, quickly identify applicable concepts, and use knowledge of the ACT format to answer questions efficiently.

ACT Math

Of the 7+ years I've spent helping students in the ACT, the section I've tutored most in is the Math section. With all of that experience under my belt, I can develop a personalized test prep plan suited for each student's needs. I can train students to interpret tricky word problems, quickly identify applicable math concepts, and use knowledge of the ACT format to answer questions efficiently. My students have gained at least 3 points in the ACT Math section after going through my personalized study plan.

ACT Reading

I've spent 7+ years helping students maximize their scores in the ACT. I can train students to interpret tricky word problems, quickly identify applicable concepts, and use knowledge of the ACT format to answer questions efficiently. My students have gained at least 3 points in the ACT Reading section after going through my personalized study plan.

ACT Science

I've spent 7+ years helping students maximize their scores in the ACT. I can train students to interpret tricky science passages, quickly identify applicable concepts/formulas, and use knowledge of the ACT format to answer questions efficiently. Altogether, my past students have gained at least 3 points in the ACT Science section after going through my personalized study plan.

Algebra 1

I have helped students understand every math subject from prealgebra through algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus. Most times, when a student is having challenges in math, it is because one or two concepts slipped by, or weren’t taught properly. This makes the next concept more difficult, and a student can soon be overwhelmed. I will quickly help you get caught up, and then help you get ahead, so that your math classes will be like review sessions instead of “mystery hours”.

Algebra 2

I have helped students understand every math subject from algebra to calculus.

Anatomy

As a professional in the medical field who has taken numerous Anatomy classes, I know the struggles of learning and excelling in Anatomy. Anatomy can be difficult to remember and understand; it is easy to fall behind, and it can be extremely difficult to catch up without help. However, with me by your side, I can definitely help you improve your situation. If you are falling behind, I can help you catch up and learn what you need to know to pass; if you are willing to do some work, I can help you excel.

Biochemistry

I have a Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry, but more importantly, I know the struggles of learning and excelling in biochemistry. Biochemistry can be difficult to understand; it is easy to fall behind, and it can be extremely difficult to catch up without help. If you are falling behind, I can help you catch up and learn what you need to know to pass; if you are willing to do some work, I can help you excel.

Biology

I have a Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry, but more importantly, I know the struggles of learning and excelling in biology. Biology can be difficult to understand; it is easy to fall behind, and it can be extremely difficult to catch up without help. If you are falling behind, I can help you catch up and learn what you need to know to pass; if you are willing to do some work, I can help you excel.

Calculus

I have helped many students understand various math subjects, with the most popular subject being calculus. From my experience, I've noticed that when a student is having challenges in math, it is often because one or two concepts slipped by, or weren’t taught properly. This causes the next concept more difficult, and a student can soon be overwhelmed. I will quickly help you get caught up, and then help you get ahead, so that your math classes will be like review sessions instead of “mystery hours”.

Chemistry

I have tutored Chemistry (regular, honors, and college level) for over 4 years now. I help students learn both the concepts and mechanics of the math needed to excel in their Chemistry class. I try to de-mystify the concepts by relating them to things students see and understand in the world around them. We work practice problems together, too, so I can observe and adjust a student's approach to maximize learning and problem-solving efficiency. To ensure the best comprehension and retention of the material, I like to ask questions in a variety of ways to test the students mastery over the material.

Geometry

I have helped students understand every math subject, one of which is geometry. From my tutoring experience, I've noticed that when a student is having challenges in math, it is often because one or two concepts slipped by, or weren’t taught properly. This causes the next concept more difficult, and a student can soon be overwhelmed. I will quickly help you get caught up, and then help you get ahead, so that your math classes will be like review sessions instead of “mystery hours”.

MCAT

I have a Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry, but more importantly, I scored above the 95th percentile on this exam. With this experience, I can assist you with study tactics that will help you excel on this exam. Also, I have tutored students in all MCAT sections for 3+ years with great success. All of my students have scored above the 90th percentile in the MCAT sections I tutored them in.

Physical Science

From my 6+ years of experience in tutoring Physical Science, I have realized there are two ways the term "Physical Science" is used. Some schools use the term "Physical Science" to mean physics, while others use it to include concepts from physics, chemistry, geology, and even astronomy. I have helped students in both types of courses, and I can quickly help you get caught up and get ahead, so that your classes will be like review sessions instead of "mystery hours."

Physics

As a biochemistry major, I had to complete college level physics, so I definitely know the troubles of learning physics. But at the same time, I know from experience what it takes to excel in physics. If you spend some effort, I'll get you caught up to pass physics; if you spend more effort, I'll help you to excel in physics.

Physiology

As a professional in the medical field who has taken numerous Physiology classes, I know the difficulties of learning and excelling in Physiology. Physiology can be difficult to remember and understand, especially with the memorization and system-linking required. On top of that, it is easy to fall behind, and it can be extremely difficult to catch up without help. However, if you are falling behind, I can help you catch up and learn what you need to know to pass; if you are willing to do some work, I can help you excel.

Prealgebra

Among the many math subjects I have tutored in, I found that many students have struggled in prealgebra. Prealgebra introduces students to many new concepts, and it can get very confusing at times. If a student gets behind, it can be very difficult to catch up. I have helped many students catch up and get ahead in prealgebra, so that their classes can be like review sessions instead of "mystery hours".

Precalculus

I have helped many students understand various math subjects, which does include precalculus. From my experience, I've noticed that when a student is having challenges in math, it is often because one or two concepts slipped by, or weren’t taught properly. This makes the next concept more difficult, and a student can soon be overwhelmed. I will quickly help you get caught up, and then help you get ahead, so that your math classes will be like review sessions instead of “mystery hours”.

PSAT

I've spent 8+ years helping students maximize their scores in the PSAT. I can train students to interpret tricky word problems, quickly identify applicable math concepts, and use knowledge of the PSAT format to answer questions efficiently. Most of my students have gained at least 200 points in the PSAT after going through my personalized study plan.

Psychology

I have been fascinated with psychology. I took many psychology electives during my undergraduate tenure, and I continue to study and read about subjects related to psychology. I can help you understand your psychology course. and can show you how to analyze issues related to psychology.

SAT Math

I earned a near perfect score on the SAT Math section, and received honors from Johns Hopkins University for my outstanding SAT/ACT scores. Since then, I've spent years helping students maximize their scores. I can train students to interpret tricky word problems, quickly identify applicable math concepts, and use knowledge of the SAT format to answer questions efficiently.

Trigonometry

In my 7+ years of math tutoring, I have tutored many students in trigonometry. From my experience, I've noticed that when a student is having challenges in math, it is often because one or two concepts slipped by, or weren’t taught properly. This makes the next concept more difficult, and a student can soon be left behind. I will quickly help you get caught up, and then help you get ahead, so that your math classes will be like review sessions instead of “mystery hours”.
