I have been working in the field of education for the past 6 years. At the onset of my journey, I served as a tutor for SurePrep Learning, which was a company that provided federally funded academic support to students in low-income neighborhoods.
As I developed into a more effective educator, I was chosen to be an AmeriCorps mentor during my last year of college. For the past 2 years, I've acquired my Masters degree in Elementary Education, while also working as a teacher at an after school education facility and as a substitute for various school districts in the area.
My journey as a teacher continues to steadily move forward, but my growth is dependent on the interactions and experiences I have with my students. As a result, my method of instruction not only emphasizes the significance of understanding topics so you can display a mastery over it, but I strive to deliver my instruction in an engaging, "fun" manner. I look forward to working with you, so that you'll not only learn, but also enjoy the learning process.
My experiences in the education field, has helped me identify when a student is struggling because they have not quite mastered basic skills embedded in what they are learning. Especially for math, it is important to assess current skill levels, so that a specific skill or content area can be mastered.
As an alumni of UCR with a major in English, I have studied literature and linguistic material that challenged me to understand the various mechanics and rules associated with grammar.
As a current educator, the common core curricula has, in some shape or form, been integrated into every school district in California. As a result, I have helped teach and develop lessons that revolve around this method of instruction.
I currently possess a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. I understand the developmental stages of early childhood development and how that influences learning. I also have a variety of different experiences in terms of guiding academic and personal growth in elementary aged children.

Joseph was patient and very knowledgeable with my 10 years old son, who is autistic. He took the time to asses him, so we can figure out a lesson plan to help him better.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I completed 15 weeks of student teaching, during that time I developed and delivered lesson plans with Common Core standards integrated into them. I also possess a Masters degree in Elementary Education, and my coursework for this program demanded lessons that utilized a Common Core approach.
With a Masters Degree in Elementary Education, I have developed an understanding towards early childhood development and learning with an emphasis in Elementary grade level children. Over the past 6 years, I have provided instruction and assistance to students ranging from grade 1 to grade 11.
