I am a professional pianist and organist, however I find that I learn so much from teaching others and it helps me to grow as a person and musician. I have a Master's Degree in Piano performance and began teaching as a teenager. I am a member of Music Teachers Association of California, Music Teachers National Association, and a founding teacher with the Music Development program. Each of these organizations have performance and theory elements for which I prepare my students. I work with children as young as 3, as well as college students.
I love meeting new people and getting to know them and their strengths and weaknesses. I especially enjoy seeing students progress and love a challenge. I particularly enjoy discovering how a student learns best and seeking out the best method for him or her to succeed.
I think that what makes me outstanding as a tutor is my patience and creativity. I want the students to learn and try to be flexible with schedules. I am happy to make up lessons as long as you notify me at least 24 hours in advance. I am happy to meet with the student at a location of their choice: my studios in West Covina, Upland, or Rancho Cucamonga or conveniently at your home. I encourage dialogue with students to keep them challenged, but not overwhelmed and provide periodic assessments and progress reports.
I offer a free assessment to ensure that we are a good match and that I can meet your needs. I also offer incentives for referring other students. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you succeed in your chosen subject. Thank you for your interest in music! My first lesson with Jamie was a very fun and comfortable experience. She wanted to assess my skill level, and immediately you could sense her passion for helping someone learn and enjoy music/piano. Also, her attention to detail was very impressive as it really communicated her desire to teach the correct way, but also to build a strong foundation for her students to excel in their pursuits. Her knowledge of music is apparent from the moment you start. My first lesson was very enjoyable, I highly recommend Jamie to anyone wishing to enhance or learn music.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
