I'm Jeremy L., a 26-year-old male with a passion for writing. I've had a large amount of success with a variety of students, ranging from elementary school to college-age. I have a B.A. in English from University of California, Los Angeles.
I began tutoring in high school, helping other high school students and K-8 students at the local library. In college, I continued to work with my peers on writing, proofreading and crafting persuasive and enticing essays. I supplemented that experience by founding a GED tutoring program for residents at a nearby homeless shelter. Following college, I worked with high school seniors on both SAT Writing and Reading and college admittance essays.
I've taken SAT tutoring courses that focus on repetition and rote memorization. Those courses work, to a certain extent. However, once you take the test and achieve or don't achieve the score you were hoping for, you simply don't have much knowledge to carry forward to other aspects of your academic career.
I focus on committing the concepts of whatever you want to work on, whether it be the SAT or a college admittance essay, to long-term memory. Once you truly understand these concepts, you'll not only boost your GPA and test scores, but you'll also have usable, useful information that will benefit you in your future homework assignments or in your collegiate life.
I always tailor my lessons and put in the time outside of each session to make sure you are getting exactly what you need-- in doing so, I will undoubtedly boost your writing and reading comprehension skills. Please contact me about any questions you may have. I look forward to working with you to reach your immediate goals and to giving you valuable knowledge that will make future goals all the more attainable. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I believe that everything you need to tell a compelling story is already in you - you've lived 17-18 years of your life, and what makes you unique is your own perspective and your experiences. I focus on targeting those things that make you uniquely you. A "boring" subject told well is always better than an exciting one told poorly.
As a college admissions tutor, I've helped countless students not only with grammar and proper structure, but also with crafting an intriguing and not run of the mill story.
