Ovid has tutored him twice and my son is feeling more confident. We will continue to work with Ovid until our son brings up his grade.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra 1 is a subject that I have tutored a lot. It is a step up from basic arithmetic and some students enjoy having extra help in the subject to help them learn better. Algebra 1 is important as it is the gateway to more advance math courses.
Algebra 2 expands on algebra 1 and it usually involves learning logs, exponentials, imaginary numbers, etc. Algebra 2 is very important as a lot of it are used in trigonometry, calculus, and statistics.
Some students may feel the jump between Algebra 1 and 2 is quite large and I will help the student review the material already covered and show them how it relates to the new material in algebra 2.
History tends to repeat itself. Learning American history is very important especially for Americans as it is part of our heritage. My tutoring experiences in American history include both remembering what happened and why it happened. The "why" is what is needed to succeed in AP history courses while the "what" can earn a lot of points in trivia tournaments.
Calculus is the study of rates of change and may seem quite confusing. In high school, most calculus courses offered are AP level and can be a significant jump from previous math courses. I have taken multiple calculus classes and have a good understanding of the subject. Most importantly, my patience and teaching skills allows the student to get the most out of tutoring.
Econometrics is using statistics and applying it to economical situations. With a degree in finance and economics and 4 years of forecasting work, I am well versed in this subject and can help you understand it better. The significance of econometrics is how it is used in real world situations.
Economics is about analyzing how a society produces, distributes, and consumes goods and services. It is a very interesting subject to learn as the concept affects our daily lives. Supply and demand are explained in this subject and if your student has a demand for a tutor in this subject, I will be more than happy to supply the tutoring needed.

Excel spreadsheets are extremely important in today's corporate world. Learning it early will help a student prepare well for a future career as any job that uses a computer, even for short amounts of time, will probably use Excel. Additionally, it is a great tool to use at home to keep track of personal finances.
I was fortunate to work with PowerPoint presentations at a young age as making those helped my creativity and presenting slides have helped my public speaking abilities. Having the ability to create presentations is extremely useful in today's working world. I can help students learn to use a very handy tool that they will probably use many times in their careers.
Word processors are such an important tool for the modern world as few formal documents are fully handwritten. Word is useful in high school, college, and especially at work. Learning the full extents of a word processor will expand the opportunities for a student.
Statistics is very useful in today's business world and I am quite experienced working with this subject. I took AP statistics in high school, statistics and econometrics in college, and have done 4+ years of sales forecasting at work.
Students who successfully learn and use the knowledge of statistics may get the feeling that they are a legitimate fortune teller (based off of real data, of course).
