I have always loved writing and teaching. I have published some of my essays and poetry and have been teaching and tutoring English and ESL for many years. I have worked, as well, as a social worker.
I tutored English and ESL for the English department of City College of San Francisco, and have had my own tutoring and education consulting service since 1996. I got my BA in writing and psychology at City College of NY; went on to get a master's in teaching from University of San Francisco; and am currently completing my PhD in Higher Education.

Eric is an amazing tutor! Having a very strong background in teaching and English makes him a perfect tutor. Eric is also very thorough in his explanations. He always makes sure that whoever he tutors understands the material before moving on. Also, he is very patient. Even when he has gone over the subject one hundred times, he will go over it again without hesitation to make sure that there is an understanding.
My son enjoyed every minutes of the two hour session with Eric. He not only taught him writing skills, but also gave him confidence in writing.
My son likes Eric a lot to be his tutor. Very patient and kind. I notice my son is improving. Thanks, Eric!
Mr. Eric M. is a great teacher, very much experienced in English tutoring, great patience, kind attitude and excellent skills.
Eric is very patient. He cares about his students' feeling. He gave me helpful advice on improving writing. I learned a lot even only in one class.
It was a big mistake to ask for his help in a first place. He assured us that he is professional English tutor and can help us writing us such thing as personal statement for UC system. Moreover he told us that he has huge experience in that and it would be really easy. We trusted him, and we made a big mistake. Study sessions were super unproductive, and we were constantly receiving calls from him asking when is the next review session. He promised us that we can always email him asking questions, but instead of answering them he was asking for the next session (each session was 2 hours for $ 90) to answer them. By Fall we had the next picture: personal statement that was unacceptable, and tutor constantly saying that we need to meet again for the next review session. To sum up, these tutoring sessions were big waste of money, and we wasted a lot of time, which was really valuable to us. In the end we were left in very uncomfortable position in the fall, when UC application was due. We made the right decision that we refused from his services, and we do not recommend anyone else his services.
Eric has been working with my son for a few months now and we have seen a very positive improvement in his focus and overall school performance. Eric has a calm demeanor and is very patient, but he’s engaging and teaches at the right pace. His follow up after each lesson is thorough and provides good feedback for the following week. Eric has been a very positive influence on my son and I would highly recommend him in the future.
In preparation to what I need, I went and see Eric. He was nice and calm and I believe he is a good tutor.
Eric is a very good teacher. He is very patient and he has a lot of knowledge about the english language. He helped me with my pronunciation and helped me to correct my mistakes.
Eric worked with my son for 90 minutes on writing. Eric is very patient and has a special knack for engaging his students. My son was present and eager to participate for the entire lesson. Which is a feat as he is very easily distracted. Eric's kind, personable approach worked. My son willingly wrote a one page story and then listened as Eric pointed out and coached him thru issues. We will have Eric continue working with our son once a week. Thanks Eric!
Eric has had two sessions with our son in teaching reading comprehension and writing. Eric has demonstrated the patience that we have been looking for to teach our son. A great match.
Eric is very good tutor. We feel very lucky can find such a good tutor. He is very educational and knowledgeable.
Eric is a great and caring tutor. He has many years of teaching experience, which is reflected in his approach. He loves teaching and currently is pursuing his PhD degree in education. Eric works hard while teaching, and often goes the extra mile to ensure my understanding. As a result of his tutoring, my English has improved a lot in two months! I am very happy that he is my English tutor!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
