I am native Japanese. I went to public schools through high school in Japan. I was selected as an exchange student in high school and stayed with a host family in Maine for one year. When I came back to Japan, I won an English speech contest. I also did some tutoring English to a junior high student. After graduating from high school, I came back to attend a college in California. While the dorms were closed during a break from the semesters, I stayed with my host family and I helped their son and daughter with math.
I worked for a Japanese bank for over 9 years in US. I prepared loan applications (ringi) in Japanese as well as English. I had Japanese businesses as clients and interacted with them in Japanese. I also did the translation of loan applications from Japanese to English and English to Japanese in order to comply with the bank regulations in US and Japan.
I am very logical and straight forward. I get excited when students get "unstuck" with problems that they are facing with.
I look forward to working with you soon.

Mami helped me fill holes in my vocabulary list, but more importantly helped me distinguish between words with similar meanings. We also talked about which verb form usages were very common and very rare.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
