About Robert

I began marketing and producing live shows, played for radio broadcasts, restaurants, and wineries over 20 years ago. I am interested teaching the art of music and the components of rhythm, melody and harmony and improve any players' ability to listen and play without overplaying. Through my instruction of basic harmony and chord structure, I emphasize techniques and skills of practice patterns, chord changes and expression. Overall, my learning system of reading, writing, improvisation and ear training can teach the young and the young at heart!

My appreciation for music began early in life, and today I have an extensive digital music collection made from original, eclectic and varied sources. I began reading and writing music as a child, and today I have collected many examples of popular, standard and progressive modern music. My background in improvisation has included many group and solo performances. I have learned over many years the conversation of music and the ability to listen instinctively during performances.

My career has combined the interests of music, cultural events and shows, and live performance with the world of marketing and advertising. It has expanded to live productions at venues like wineries and cultural centers to promote the performing arts. Over many years of study, I have grown to understand what it takes to overcome the challenges of performing and playing meaningful music; and, I have the ability to guide students in their work and aspirations.

I am a consistent self-starter with 30-years experience emphasizing reliability and accuracy. During my career, I began using computers for desktop publishing national travel magazines and distributed over 60 successful editions. I have overseen all aspects of marketing brochures, maps, booklets, glossy magazines, rack cards and postcards in full color using Adobe Design Suite and InDesign.

My first purchase of Adobe Photoshop was in 1995, and since I have composed thousands of advertising layouts for publications, postcards and coupons. With my love of photography, I have spent many years traveling and contributing to magazine layouts pictures i have edited in Photoshop. I have used the software to create layers, transparencies, backgrounds, clipping paths, image sizes, resolution and other adjustments to accommodate full color web and print.

I presently maintain a travel blog covering California history, recreation, festivals, events and tours. I have created cross-promotional marketing relationships linking in-kind partnerships for non-profit organizations and cultural centers. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

I have a 30-year background emphasizing professionalism, reliability and accuracy over a wide range of media. My abilities include media for both print and web publications, and in-house operations of graphic, image editing, data management, Adobe and MS Office software. I have overseen all aspects creating full color marketing brochures, maps, booklets, glossy magazines, postcards, rack cards and video.

I will take each student through understanding typography, design of page layouts, electronic publishing and integrating with the web and other software programs. Design lessons are offered in understanding menus for layering, linking graphics, choosing colors and gradients, stoke and shadowing, transparency and feathering plus many other techniques.

My goal using enhanced keyboard shortcuts will quicken the pace and reliability of work being produced. Whether it's simple business cards, letterheads, envelopes, magazines or oversized banner layouts, the job is accomplished with ease and simplicity.

Adobe Photoshop

My extensive experience in printing brought many images from raw camera to finished product and included producing national titles and fine quality publications for mass media.

My system teaching Photoshop relies on the WYSIWYG formula when running color correction with Photoshop. What You See Is What You Get when your screen is adjusted, the level and saturation is corrected and filters applied. By recognizing the simplicity of Photoshop's common concepts for both light and pigment color, I employ the aid of preset effects, actions, and some cases batching quantities of images in mass production. I have integrated image software by other companies expediting file format conversions, adding more efficiency to projects.

My goal is to share enough knowledge in one session to leave a lasting understanding of the mechanics and limits in Photoshop. I will discuss how to integrate typesetting, adjust images for import or export. The final product you use will be natural looking and mimic the original in landscape photography, or adjusted to meet your needs for original artwork.

Desktop Publishing

Desktop publishing works well for start ups to create initial business cards, flyers, brochures and postcards, as well as develop an identity for advertising. I began working with desktop publications in 1985, when I designed printed coupons using Adobe software and contracted to deliver printed employee buying cards. Soon, I expanded to publishing print magazines, and I developed a system to create layouts advertising top-of-the-line companies and web productions. Integrating InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop will yield high end sharp, clear and concise media graphics to target audiences, and adds the ability to control your business image and branding, all relying on your desktop efficiency.

My system relies on WYSIWYG, what you see is what you get; a key with graphic user interface (GUI.) I employed design expertise to build layouts and meet strict deadlines for a publisher need 1000 images for 5 photography volumes, by using third party programs to mass produce my images to specification.

I will be collaborating on a new book project and my objective is to help the writer organize and complete the book formatting and deliver it using an on-demand book making system found at Sacramento Library (and in Fresno,) in order to publish directly from files and complete a softcover book at a minimal rate.

My investment in Macintosh began in the late 1980s working with Creative Learning Software, a company I joined to present Apple II touchscreen commands and voice response, aiding the learning disabled. I began desktop publications using Macintosh SE computers, adding a larger full screen, laser printer and scanner; eventually upgrading to the latest available equipment through 2009. My work included 15 years of full color productions in print, and for the distribution of magazines, brochures and promotional items.


I have mentored and consulted sales and businesses professionals developing new marketing and advertising plans for over 30 years. My students delve deeper into understanding the mechanics of marketing campaigns and how to open the door to client-based accounts. I have trained business to business sales team techniques, image branding, graphic advertising, full color printing, and the use of document publishing tools for increased activity. I have met budget deadlines guiding entrepreneurial owners to the next level, and raised their ability to operate computers and develop writing and editing, marketing research skills.

My strategy finding new clients, organizing direct marketing presentations, b2b telemarketing, bulk mailing, on-line, and print promotions, couponing, co-promotional sponsorships, and in-person contact with lead to successful contracting and opportunities to create budgeting, research for potential leads, and targeting return on investment. The steps to an entrepreneurial enterprise is developed from a strong marketing plan and advertising technique. My key marketing principles are thorough and dependent on the type of inquiry for consulting and mentoring any business.

Music Theory

My Musical Theory classes are a practice of steps and intervals, rhythm, timing and creating musical expression on one's instrument. I take a lesson plan and feature 20 goals understanding playing, performing, recording, reading and writing. My lesson plan offers short sessions on theory leaving student's a lifelong set of practice exercises and techniques. My model of a piano keyboard imitates an orchestra representing in one instrument percussive, melodic, harmonic and rhythmic sound.

My lesson plan encompasses technical playing, harmonic structures taken from a simple octave to playing and appreciating chord structures, chord changes, comping, and deeper listening with ear training. I begin my theory explaining the overtone series, framework of a composition, and focus on a student's ability to readily read and write musically.

As group leader and 10 years for a duo; Jazz and Samba, I featured a jazz vocalist, and I arranged many pieces on piano for use in larger groups, writing out note by note for other musicians. With instruction of harmony, melody and chord extensions, I am able to emphasize technique on keyboard, the patterns, chord changes, percussion, melody, and expression any musician and student can achieve.
