Bio

I was raised with a lifelong love of learning and life. It has taken various forms as an adult, from teaching in Public Schools, to teaching in Montessori Education, to creating health and educational programs for adults, then to becoming a Pharmaceutical Representative. I recently retired and have decided to return part-time to what I feel was my most rewarding job; that of being a one-on-one tutor.

Where I feel gifted as a tutor is in having the ability to get inside a child or adult's head, figure out how they are thinking, then helping them gain confidence and new skills based on how they learn best.

I have significant experience teaching reading, speaking and writing with adults. I'm a former member of Literacy Volunteers of America and currently work with two adults who are not on WyzAnt. My schedule is more flexible with adults as long as the location is mutually agreeable.

In the past I tutored several students through Literacy Volunteers of America (LVA), Santa Barbara Branch. Currently I privately mentor and tutor a Private Estates Manager who is 44. She taught herself English at 17 (mainly by watching TV) after moving here from Jalisco, Mexico. Her goals are varied as she has to be able to communicate daily with her boss and she must communicate verbally and in written form with ESL employees who attended school in The U.S. Her self-confidence and skills have greatly increased this past year.

I have had a lot of experience writing newsletters for the non-profit group, Midtown Ventura Community Council. After another member took over the writing, I became the proofreader. Currently I am tutoring an adult in business organizational writing (reports), vocabulary building and reading. With a background in Pharmaceutical Sales and Managed Healthcare Administration, I am comfortable with medical information.

Exactly what we were looking for!

Pamela was so patient and knowledgeable of my son's handwriting needs! I have seen tremendous improvements in such a few short weeks. She had many tactics to help him improve and really tried to make the learning fun. Thanks Pamela!

Tutor responded:

Thank you Rosie. It was a pleasure to have worked with Anthony. He took it seriously and really made the effort to improve.

Exceptional professional

Pamela tutors our 4th grader English Language Arts. He is a non-native English speaker so it is much harder for him to excel in these subjects. After just a few lessons with Pamela he started showing higher confidence, better reading and comprehension scores. We are happy that we found Pamela at Wyzant and grateful that she found time in her schedule for our son. She is an exceptional professional with all of the skills and experience required for this job. Pamela is very punctual, organized and knowledgeable. We can't wait to see the additional progress our son will make!

Excellent tutor: Reading and Comprehension

Pamela is very professional, and with a lot of patience. Our son has demonstrated improvement and interest in reading and has improved his school grades. Pamela went above and beyond taking the time to coordinate needs and progress with our son's teacher, so that she can focus on those areas. Pamela is knowledgable, and has awesome skills to teach. Totally recommend her for tutoring.

Pamela is the best tutor!

05/11/2015 Pamela it's been 5 months now and Emmilee has come along way. She continues to strive at school and she always amazes us with her wanting to learn. GREAT TUTOR!

Pamela has been tutoring our 4 year old boy for over a month now. She is getting him ready for kindergarten and doing a great job! She is very patient and is able to work with our son where he is at. She is very hands on, and pays close attention to our child's learning style so that she can get through to him in a way he can understand. He looks forward to each session and enjoys learning with her. We are very grateful to have such a great tutor for our son! 5/8/15 It has been such a pleasure watching our son learn and grow with Pamela. He is now 5 years old and can count to 100, knows his alphabet, uppercase and lowercase letters, can write all letters and numbers, is learning to tell time, and has begun the first stages in reading with letter sounds and word recognition. This is a lot considering he has had no prior experience with daycare, preschool, or tutoring. Pamela started from scratch and clearly has a gift for reaching the child at their level and mindset, and she truly can get in their minds and find the best way to teach them. Our son continues to look forward to his lessons with Pamela and we couldn't be happier with her!
