After graduating from the UCLA Teacher Education Program, Brandy went on to teach nearly every grade from kindergarten through adult education, earning National Board Certification along the way. As principal, she let her school to National Quality in Education awards for teacher action research and data analysis. With a strong interest in education policy, Brandy went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania Law School, earning a J.D and a Certificate in Business and Public Policy from Wharton. Recently, she was one of only 13 educators nationwide selected as a National Hope Street Group Teacher Fellow. She has presented workshops at national conferences, including the California Department of Education and the Annual ASCD event.
Brandy is fluent with competency-based systems and personalized approaches to education. To this end, Brandy has developed curriculum and instructional practices that suit each student's unique learning style. As principal, Brandy led her school to distinction as the "top competency based" school in the country for two consecutive years.
She is also an avid and successful writer. Her articles on improving education have been featured in publications such as CATE, ASCD Express, and the teaching anthology What Teaching Means. Recently, Brandy won first place in two professional writing contests. Her essay style has been described as "powerful." She is able to take the kernel of an essay and transform it into a stirring and inspirational narrative. As a lifelong nerd, she finds this work "fun" and looks forward to assisting students in finding and manifesting the soul of their own story. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
