CSUN (Child Development)
Hello all potential students. My name is Marci. I have been an elementary school teacher and tutor since 1983. I have taught children from 3-16 years of age. I have taught in both the public and private sector. I enjoy teaching and working with children who are struggling in phoenimic awareness and beginning reading.
In addition. I have 9 years of experience working with children who are developmentally disabled or under the "umbrella" of Autism Spectrum Disorder. My biggest accomplishment to date, I feel is having taught an autistic girl to read. I feel so happy and proud now when I hear her read the words in her reader out loud.
I believe that every child has the ability to do well and succeed in school. Some children just need a little extra attention to achieve that goal.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught all elementary school grades in private and public schools. I began teaching in 1984 at the preschool level with my BA in Child Development. I was soon promoted to teaching reading, phonics and math in Kindergarten for 6 years. After this I was encouraged by my principal to teach grades 1, 2, 3, and 4. I have also worked as a private tutor in all elementary school grades with continued success.
I have taught phonics to children from preschool through 5th grade in private and public school. While teaching phonics at the Kindergarten level, all of my students were able to read and be ready to enter 1st grade. I have also privately taught an eight year old boy with autism to read through an intensive phonics that I created using a variety of phonics tools and workbooks.
