About Keanna

I love learning and I enjoy helping others! I enjoying seeing students reach their goals and achieve what seemed impossible before.

I am a graduate of the University of Southern California, where I attained a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. I am an experienced tutor and I am constantly refreshing my knowledge.

I worked at a career services center for four years throughout college where I assisted career counselors on resume reviews, interview tips/mock interviews and other career type services. I am confident that I am able to provide those in need with help on career-related matters whether it is resume advice, interview tips, do's and don'ts, etc. I have the skills to assist those in high school/college/early career, particularly those in and/or interested in the humanities/liberal arts/business and media industries.

My tutoring background spans over three years, during which time I have tutored elementary, middle and high school students in Math and English/Language Arts. I began tutoring when I was in high school, volunteering with my local church to work with middle school students who were struggling in Math. Eventually, there became a need for Language Arts tutors, and with straight As throughout my high school career, I added English/Language Arts to the list of subjects I could help with. In college, I worked as a Team Leader at SuperCamp, an academic and life skills summer camp for middle and high school students. In that role, I co-facilitated learning activities to help provide students with tools and tricks to improve their study habits and raise their grades in knowledge in math and reading.

In 2013, after graduating from USC and pursuing a career in television business, I realized that although I loved what I was doing, academia and working with students had always been a true passion of mine and I missed it. I began working with a local company that provided tutoring services to low-income students who were having trouble in math and English. Based on my past tutoring experience and college academic achievement, I began working with elementary, middle and high school students again. I provided one-on-one tutoring in the following subjects: math subjects of Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. English/Language Arts topics include: reading comprehension, grammar/spelling, writing, and literature.

After that initial stretch of tutoring, I left the company and went off on my own, providing homework help to students who I was put in contact with based on the recommendation of previous clients. I took a break last year, but in January 2016, I resumed tutoring, assisting with homework, as well as specific subject study. I worked one-on-one with an 8th grade student (pre-algebra/pre-geometry) and in a group setting two 5th grade students (elementary level math).

I've had the pleasure of working with a number of students and seeing them improve from start to finish. My tutoring method involves being adaptable, providing students with knowledge and encouragement. I initially like to work with a student to establish goals and learning outcomes. I believe that having a concrete "finish line" can be a good source of motivation! There are many different learning styles and as a tutor, it is important for me to make sure to approach each student with tools that will help them in his or her own individual way. I also believe that practice makes perfect and I like to include various practice problems and guides for students to work with to help ensure comprehension and encourage to think one step further. Lastly, it is important for me to try to incorporate fun and fascinating activities into my tutoring sessions. It's easy to become bored or uninterested, especially if a topic is not of interest to a student. But whether that is a real world connection for a science topic or a game for algebraic expressions, I think it is important to bring in alternative types of activities to remind students that learning can be fun!

My tutoring ability also benefits from my academic background and achievements. I was the valedictorian of my graduating high school class of 2009. I was also a 2009 Ventura County Star Scholar, which recognizes less than 100 students who are the top academic- achieving students from the county. In college, I was accepted to the USC Marshall School of Business, which is a top 10 undergraduate business program. While there, I successfully completed core classes including Calculus, Statistics, Accounting and Business Finance, all with a grade of B or better. I made the Dean's List for my academic achievement in my major coursework and I was awarded a Marshall School of Business E. Morgan Stanley Endowment Scholarship and maintained it all four years with proven academic success, leadership ability and a commitment to business education.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you soon and working with you to reach your goals!

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
