About Jen

In 2013, I graduated from The Art Institute of Portland, where I received my bachelor of fine arts degree in interior design, with a minor in sustainability. In 2010, I graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh - Online Division, where I received my diploma in residential planning.

I moved to the LA area about 2 years ago. I'm now a design and production assistant at Neoteric Luxury in Santa Monica, which is a full-time position Monday through Friday, so my availability is now limited to weekends, and after 6pm week nights (if meeting location is in Santa Monica or close enough to be reasonable). I also do freelance work - mostly 3D renderings.

Over the past six years, I have been using AutoCAD, Google SketchUp Pro with SU Podium V2, Photoshop, InDesign, and Microsoft Office programs on a regular basis (all Mac versions). I have also been sketching, hand drafting, hand rendering, creating presentation boards, and occasionally painting.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe InDesign

Throughout college I was required to create my presentation boards and marketing materials using InDesign. I have always received compliments on my boards, and I even got my last job because of how I put together my portfolio, which I created using InDesign. My first task on that job was to create a portfolio for my boss using the same program. In my current job, I use InDesign on a regular basis for several projects including business cards, flyers, pamphlets, magazine pages, and all other visual, digital layouts that needs to be done.

Adobe Photoshop

I have been using Photoshop for the past 6-7 years. I have taken multiple courses including photography, where we used to it restore and edit images, digital rendering, where we used Photoshop to edit, manipulate, and create new images by importing textures, people, etc. We also learned the basics of illustrator.

During my internship earlier this year, part of my work required me to use InDesign and Photoshop to create marketing materials. I was also asked to create/manipulate images for designs for a new clothing line. In addition, I have used it in school for most of my design work, as well as for my own personal projects.


I have my residential planning diploma, in addition to a Bachelor Fine Arts degree in interior design with a minor in sustainability. Anyone who knows anything about the interior design program and the field, knows that interior designers learn almost EVERYTHING that architecture students do. I have taken courses in codes and regulations, several courses in art history related to architecture specifically, period styles, drafting courses, AutoCAD courses, detailing courses, etc. I have also done quite a bit of volunteer work related to construction, architecture and design. I have worked on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I worked on a construction site during a build day for Habitat for Humanity, and I've worked on a design project for an underprivileged teenage boys facility.


I have kept a sketchbook since I was 7 years old. Drawing and shading with pencil has always been a passion of mine. I took drawing and art classes throughout high school, and throughout my 5 years in college. I have always gotten an A in these classes, and I have learned many new techniques along the way. I know how to sketch, draw in bird's eye view, one point perspective, two point perspective, create constructed perspectives to scale using a floor plan, draw with different mediums, etc.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Excel for about 9-10 years now - both professionally as well as for personal use. I have taken several courses, worked on several projects, and have had jobs (and still do) that require me to use Excel on a daily basis. I am knowledgeable in creating basic spreadsheets, using functions, creating charts and graphs, schedules, etc., and I have resources that I will provide each and every one of my students (specific to the version being used) for you to keep as a reference tool. The more I know about your project/goals within the program up front, the more efficient our time will be, and the better prepared I can be in terms of gathering/creating helpful references/overview for you.

Study Skills

Over the years I have come up with several interactive ways to study for tests. No matter what the subject is, I can help. Most of my methods involve writing AND visual/hands-on material, so whether you're a visual learner, or someone who learns and remembers content by reading and re-writing it, you'll notice a definite change in your grade. You will also remember the material for a longer period of time by studying this way.


I have always been complimented and acknowledged for my writing skills. Throughout high school and college I always excelled in my English and writing courses. I know APA and MLA style formats well for writing research papers, and I know what it takes to write a strong paper/essay.
