I have more than 7 years tutor and substitute teaching experience. I have taught at all grades and levels of students. To be a substitute teacher a background check and drug test must be passed--I have passed both of those and am still in compliance.
I enjoy tutoring because I believe that everyone needs a little help from a patient person sometimes. It could be that little push or extra help they don't receive in class that could turn their attitude from a dislike, to a like, or even love! I grew up loving school and learning. I would love more than anything to help anyone else have a similar experience or just to help make it less stressful.
I have a Minor in Philosophy, Bachelors in Communications, and a Masters in Mass Media Communications from UCF. I find that my education and background in communications comes in handy when trying to help a student learn a certain subject. I believe that it also has taught me patience and to be very understanding of other's needs. I have more than 7 years tutor and substitute teaching experience. We've been very happy with Dottie. When we help our daughter with homework it takes 3 or more hours and there's a lot of stress involved for all parties. When Dottie helps our daughter somehow the homework gets done in an hour without any stress or tears. I can highly recommend Dottie.
I was happy to have Dottie as a tutor. She helped me review some writings that I had and let me know what I didn't explain well and how I could fix them to make them more understandable. I was very lucky and fortunate to have her as a tutor, we didn't move onto the next question till she made sure I knew how to fix the grammar problems and that I knew why the reason for the fixes, something that was never really done with me in school and I wish I had and very happy that Dottie took the time to do that for me. I will definitely keep her in my books when I need more help with my writings and grammar fixes!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have previous tutor experience in k-6th grades. I have tutored students at these grade levels in various subjects, including reading, writing, math and literature.
I also have been a substitute teacher for 7 years in two school districts. Substitute teaching requires knowledge of various subjects including math/reading/writing and many others, depending on who I am filing in for that day. As a substitute I have to be knowledgeable in all fields, especially that of primary school education. I am proficient in the subjects of math, science and reading/English. For example, A day sub teaching in 3rd grade math, requires me to know multiplication, subtraction, division, fractions; to be able to help children with their studies. The same is true for sub teaching for example for a first grade class, teaching students how to read and write.
In addition, I have passed and received high scores on the ACT, SAT and GRE tests. These tests have writing, science and math portions you must pass to go to college. The GRE test I had to pass to obtain my master's degree. In passing these tests, I feel that I am more than qualified to tutor students for primary education in k-6th grades.
I have taken several courses in photography while obtaining my Masters Degree in Communications. These include Intro to photography, basic photography, and advanced photography. I have worked with DSLR''s, 35mm and many other types/models of cameras. I have over 7 years of photography experience and educational background to be able to teach and tutor individuals on how to take photographs and work with their specific cameras. Photography is something that I feel very passionate about and have loved for many years along side with my ability to teach students.
I have a bachelors degree and Masters in Communications. While obtaining my degrees, I had to take many public speaking courses. I passed all with flying colors! I also am currently employed by a television news station, where speaking in front of a lot of people every day is required.
