In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I began tutoring when my eldest son's teacher asked if I could tutor a classmate having difficulty with math. She was amazed with my patience with the young man, and the progress we made. Soon teachers were seeking my tutoring for their students. I enjoy seeing how happy a student is when they make progress in a difficult area.
I earned an AA degree from college. My focus was computers and math.

Fortunately I am very good at spelling. When I sat for the college entry exam I passed the spelling portion with 100% correct. This was such a rare event that I was requested to re-take that portion of the test. Guess what, I passed it again with 100% correct!
