Hi! My name is Jennifer but my family calls me Jen. I received my B.S. in Biology from UC, Davis and my Master in Public Health (MPH) and Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences (MS) from Touro University. I am currently applying for medical school (wish me luck!) Before I started my MS program last year, I spent a few months volunteering as a tutor for kids at the public library in Vallejo, California. I really enjoy working with kids so I decided to pursue tutoring before I start medical school. I have tremendous leadership and volunteer experience in various fields but my passion is healthcare. My previous employment is at Partnership HealthPlan of California, a Medicaid health insurance plan, where I worked on projects geared at improving the quality care received by Medicaid members. I also did research in Psychology when I was in college and on HIV/AIDS for my graduate fieldwork in Cambodia.
Besides my educational and professional background, I love immersing myself in new adventures and experiences. In fact, I have always wanted to try teaching, which is why I decided to volunteer as a tutor. On a regular day, I like to spend time with family and friends just engaged in conversations, cooking/eating, watching movies, etc. I really enjoy traveling and have been to eighteen different countries, 3 of which I lived in. I enjoy camping and hiking in the summer and snowboarding in the winter.
I look forward to meeting you!
My background in Math is very limited but I did take math until I finished the Calculus series in College. I have taken three statistics classes. Most of the Math I still practice are those applicable to Science courses.
I have a Bachelor and Master degree that is heavily science-based. As a pre-medical student, I was required to take core Science courses that cross various Science disciplines.
Doing a graduate program in public health required a lot of reading and writing so I have spent countless hours on proofreading. I also used to proofread documents for my previous job as a coordinator and researcher.
I have been in academia for 27 years and have developed study strategies that allowed me to excel in my academics. I was also going to school and working full-time simultaneously while pursuing my Master in Public Health, which forced me to be efficient at my studying. Having been in two different graduate programs with different focused, I also learned how to study efficiently and effectively for different subjects.
I value learning and education and would love to be part of your child's success. I am looking forward to working with kids and their families to help them excel in academia. Hi! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
