I'm a beginner in tutoring and I realize that I have a lot of competition with other tutors who have countless more hours of experience than I do, who just started. I received my Masters degree last August in American History at American Public University at an on-line school. I love American and Military history. My goal is to become a history teacher someday and I find that tutoring is a good start to gain experience in the field, which is why I'm here. I'm very enthusiastic about history. I see it as an adventure and not as just a subject. Its fascinating, engaging, and very exciting! I'm very confident that I can get the job done and help students out.
The question is why would a student want me as a tutor, compared to someone who has more experience than I do? Well, besides me being a lot less cost effective, I know the subject of American history. My specialty is the American Revolution, the Civil War, the expansion of the West, World War I and II. Besides tutoring in American history, students will learn from me techniques on how to better themselves in their history class. Such techniques will include research, organization, and writing a thesis and research papers. Students will feel more confident about themselves and of history after each tutorial session.
I received my bachelors degree in Multimedia at California University of Northridge. My field involved technical work of computers and web and graphic design. I had a few jobs in the field, but I became very tired of the profession after a few years and I realized I needed to go back to school to better myself. History was the answer. I have always loved American and Military history. It is my passion and now I want to share my passion to others, especially in the field of education. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
