Does your child need additional time to learn new material? Or perhaps his/her struggle in reading and/or math has left him/her behind? I can help get your elementary student working toward grade level standards. Also, perhaps more importantly, I can help get your child's confidence back. All students can learn, it's just about finding the right methods.
I have 8 years experience as an elementary teacher. I have taught mostly 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades during that time. I also have experience tutoring at a national brand learning center, working with students in grades K-12. I have my Master's in Elementary Education with Reading Specialist Certification from East Stroudsburg University in PA.
As I said before, I strongly believe all students can learn. I will try a variety of methods until I find what works for your child. Learning is fun and I look forward to sharing my love of learning with you and your child. Does your child need additional time to learn new material? In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
American history has always been a favorite of mine. Though an elementary educator, my concentration was history (focusing on American history) for my undergraduate degree. Learning history is not a memorization of facts, instead it's learning, understanding, and connecting the story.
I am a certified elementary teacher for grades K-6 and have taught in the classroom for the past 8 years.
Math was "that" subject for me during my school years. Now as an educator, I find its easiest to teach and tutor in the subject that was most difficult. Often times students are only taught one way to solve problems. What's great about math, is there are often many ways to get the same answer. I will help your student get the answer, but also understand the way it's being taught in school.
Elementary science can be difficult for students because there is a lot of facts to remember and understand. I can help your child in this subject.
In the age of technology, grammar is often a subject overlooked. But as your child progresses through school, he/she will still need to know the basics of grammar to be successful.
I have 7 years' experience teaching phonics to 2nd graders. It is important to ensure students have sound phonics in order to be a successful reader.
It is said that if a student is not reading on grade level by the fourth grade, he/she may never catch up. Reading is intimidating for many students because they feel behind. I can help get your child reading and/or increase reading comprehension.
Many students today are not taught how to study. They struggle to memorize for a test, but are not truly learning the material. I have a variety of methods to help students study and take notes to do well in school.
I can help with your child's vocabulary by making connections to the words, instead of memorizing them.
