About Jonathan

"The scientist is not a person who gives the right answers, he's one who asks the right questions." ~Claude Leacutevi-Strauss

Hello! My name is Jonathan. I am a current UC Davis student, majoring in Biochemistry. My goal after graduation is to attend UC Riverside's medical school. After the Winter 2015 quarter, my cumulative GPA is 3.76, while my science GPA is 3.82. Prior to UC Davis, I attended Chaffey College, were I completed its Honor's program. While at Chaffey, I was Vice President of the Chemistry Club and worked as an SI leader. As a SI leader, I provided supplement instructions for Inorganic Chemistry, College Algebra, and Anatomy courses by integrating course content and teaching study strategies in hour and a half sessions with students. However, I too know the challenges of attaining, retaining, and applying newly learned material. My tutoring strategy, therefore, focuses on these 3 keystones to success in the classroom. Each one is its own gratifying step towards the mastery of a subject. Through engaging with the student and adapting my lessons to their unique learning styles, I aim to develop an independent thinker and foster a team in which your success is our success.

I provided supplemental instructions in College Algebra at Chaffey College for 2 semesters. The students that attended sessions raised test scores on average by a letter grade than they were before attending. I have completed the college math sequence up to Calculus 2 course receiving A's in each course.

I was an inorganic Chemistry and Anatomy supplemental instructor for 2 semesters. Students who had attended the Anatomy session received B's or higher at end of semester. More so, students who attended the Inorganic Chemistry raised test scores by at least a full letter grade than they were before.

Allow me to share the strategies and techniques I have found to be successful for others and I. Please contact me, so we can both progress our team's success.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I was a supplemental instructor at Chaffey College for a school year in College Algebra. During the hour and half sessions, I would review the day's lesson plan by preparing a summary of the key concepts and providing further clarification for misunderstood concepts. In helping students with their homework and extra practice problems, students were able to raise their grade a whole letter than it was before. More so, I have completed the college math sequence up to Calculus 2 with A's in each course.

Algebra 2

I was a supplemental instructor at Chaffey College for a school year in College Algebra. During the sessions, I would review the day's lesson plan, the key concepts for the lesson and provide clarification on the application of the concepts. In helping students with their homework and extra practice problems, students were able to raise their grade a whole letter than it was before. More so, I have completed the college math sequence up to Calculus 2 with A's in each course.

Basketball

During my freshman and sophomore year I had played on my High School's basketball team. I had also coached youth basketball for three seasons. As any skill, basketball is based on fundamentals. I first focus on teaching players these fundamentals, then implement lessons in game-like scenarios.

Chemistry

I was an inorganic Chemistry supplemental instructor at Chaffey College for the school year. I had provided clarification on concepts and work through homework problems with the students.

Awesome Tutor

Jonathan is great at tutoring kids. If I knew how awesome he is I would have had him tutoring my son from the beginning of the school year. My son now likes math again.
